Stainless steel is boring. Why does everyone love it? Let's add some color to our homes!

In Italy, the appliances come in many different colors. I wish that I could buy a fridge that was bright yellow, or red, or magenta. Stainless steel is so institutional and cold--I understand it for restaurant kitchens, but why in the home? In our kitchen, we opted for black appliances...not magenta, but better than steel in my opinion.
