PermaTill can be incorporated into the soil to keep soils, even those high in clay, loose. This improves drainage and makes a more hospitable environment for growing roots. Those are good things anywhere, but very important here in Georgia. When I'm building a new flower bed, I always till in a few bags of PermaTill. I skipped it on a few beds in the past, but have corrected the situation after the performance difference became apparent.
As another little bonus of keeping the soil from getting compacted, it also makes subsequent tilling and planting easier. In annual beds, which get tilled twice a year here, that pays off in fewer backaches.
In areas with a mole problem, heavy use of this product will make the soil unpleasant to dig in for the moles. (For other safe mole solutions, check out my review of Milky Spore.)
