family traveler, on the beach, fun-loving dad, history lover
It's good to see all the positive reviews about St. Augustine. It's unquestionably one of the most historically relevant destinations in Florida, not to mention being a very cool place to hang out. It's a college town, it's a beach town, it's a town full of Spanish colonial history. The place gets a ton of tourists, so it can be crowded, and it can be expensive, but it's still well worth visiting. — — I love places with a good history behind them, and the stories are part and parcel of what makes St. Augustine so cool. I love hearing about how the fort itself housed everything…

a history nut, a frequent Florida visitor, a lover of 'off the beaten path'
Sometimes its hard to believe, but not everyone who travels to Florida goes to visit the Mouse. Long before Walt picked the perfect spot on which to build his dream, another Florida city was welcoming visitors to it's gates with history and hospitality. Today, St. Augustine is referred to as a Florida hidden secret. It is an enchanting destination that transports you back in time and offers a trip you will remember for years to come. — Can you possibly be educated and entertained on vacation? And enjoy it? You bet - just don't tell the kids! History…

budget conscious traveler, love to travel, family traveler, Every day computer user
On Memorial Day we traveled to St Augustine with our kids and my sister and brother.. It was so nice to visit a historic place in Florida. There was so much to do and see and it was very educational for the kids. — First we saw the Castillo San Marcos which was built in 1672. It is affordable to get in and there is lots to see. We also went to The old Hotel Alcazar which has shops on the bottom floor where the pool used to be. — We also went to Old St. Augustine Village is a collection of nine historic houses spanning the period 1790 to…

love nature, love to travel, married, family traveler, seeker of fun and interesting places
I do love Disney World, but I must admit that St. Augustine is for me the "Happiest Place on Earth". My husband and I went there for our honeymoon 5 1/2 years ago and we still talk about it and recommend it to others. If you're into history, then this is the place to go. It's the oldest city in the US. My favorite spots were the Fort, Lighthouse, The Fountain of Youth and Ripley's. There's something for everyone and if you love taking pictures, you'll feel like your in photography heaven…

a romantic, a travel junkie, intrigued by pedestrian-friendly locales
Park your car: Florida's oldest city is a walking town — That is, of course, if you'd rather not be in a horse-drawn carriage! We once had a carriage driver that looked just like Tom Petty. We still talk about him. In his carriage, we clip-clopped our way over to Flagler College, perhaps the prettiest campus in America. Wow, what great architecture. (Flagler was an industrialist who loved Florida; he built a railroad all the way to Key West and lots of architectural icons). Downtown St. Augustine, in its beautiful…

budget conscious traveler, love to travel, gay/lesbian traveler, family traveler, museum goer
The first thing most people notice about St. Augustine is the unbeatable view. People walking rather than driving, horse-drawn carriages, and unbelievable architecture make this an excellent tourist destination. — — Whether you like museums, restaurants, beaches, or just walking, there is something for everyone to do. I personally found it shocking how many historical adventures there are around every corner. From the Castillo de San Marcos to the oldest cemetery, and the oldest house to the wax museum on King Street. — — Lively townspeople, as well as merchants,…
