Final Fantasy VIII was a spur-of-the-moment, after-Christmas buy for me at a local Walmart, and the only thing I really regret concerning the game is that I loaned my PS2 to someone else for a while! I really, really, really want to play it. I've never beaten the game, though I have come close, and... read full review »

One of my favourite video games of all time was Squaresoft's jaw dropping Final Fantasy 7. That super sexy masterpiece was filled with everything from beautiful artwork, a rich soundtrack, and huge quest across 3 discs. It was the main reason I originally paid about 300 bucks for a Sony Playstation back... read full review »

So, Here We Have Final Fantasy Part 8. To Tell You The Truth There Is No Way I Can Be Objective About This 'Cause I Just LOVE This Game! I Have Played It So Many Hours That I Can't Even Remmember How Long It Was, All I Know Is That I Am Playing It Even Now!
Great Caracters, Weapons, Spells And Not To Mention The Whole Storyline.
After Some 2 Or 3 Hours Of Constant Playing You Begin To Think Like The Main Caracter (you become one with him). Not Many RPG Games Have So Powerful Story Like This One.
Every Caracter Has His Own Background And Every Single One Is Special In A Certain Way.
The Longer You Play...

Final Fantasy VIII is the first final fantasy game I ever played. The moment I started playing I was addicted to the storyline and the characters. After playing this game I urgently sought out every other final fantasy game ever made and have been a Final Fantasy addict ever since.

The core of any Final Fantasy game has always been its story, and Final Fantasy VIII's story is one of the best the series - and likely the genre - has ever seen. With Final Fantasy VII, Square showed that it had mastered the epic; with VIII, it shows that it has mastered the personal. The characters and their relationships...

Ok, Final Fantasy 8 is one of my all-time video games.  The gameplay is exciting, the graphics are great (considering that it is a Playstation One game), the characters are colorful and interesting, the storyline will suck you in and not let you go, and the soundtrack is nothing short of amazing.  There is also a little card game that provides a nice little break from adventuring that is worth checking out.  Anyway, the story revolves around a young student named Squall Leonheart who becomes a mercenary for hire.  The story evolves beyond imagination into an epic tale of time traveling, friendship, and...

I really think that of all the final fantasy games this one is the best of them all, but that is just my humble opinion. The fighting mode is one of the best. This game is very addicting and loads of fun. The storyline is one of the most interesting things about the game, with many twists and turns, it's bound to keep you glued to your chair and your television screen for many hours.  The FMV scenes are nothing short of breathtaking as are some of the spells you are able to cast.  Squaresoft (now Square Enix) has found a way to live up to the hype after the success of Final Fantasy 7. If your...

This was a very different take on the Final Fantasy Genre. In some ways it was okay, the graphics are nice and not too awkward. But most of the characters are mentally and emotionally challenged (especially the SEED director) and make most of the storyline slightly frustrating.

Parts of the game can also be tedious since points and rank are awarded for "behavior" and actions. The monsters the characters can call are a nice plus and can do awesome damage to foes. The fact you constantly have to switch them to different characters to make the monsters "like" them is a big time waster though.

Overall...

For the 8th installment of the series, Square gives a title that gives one rememerable feature - the card playing mini game.  The storyline is decent, and takes twists and turns like very other title, but it leaves something to be desired.  The characters are great as always, with the magic system being revamped and getting a bit better.  The way you can "draw" magic is unique, but I would much rather have the materia from VII or just straight magic use.  However, the amount of time needed to complete the entire game if great - it took me over 70 hours to do everything.  That is the main feature... read full review »

By the time I bought this game, Final Fantasy 9 was out already, so I missed all the hype.  That being said, I had no expectations coming into this game.  I was not disappointed, except for how difficult and confusing the junctioning and drawing system of magic was.  If you like being able to cast magic whenever you want, based on a learned ability, don't play this game.  This game is cruel at times.  The graphics ARE good for their time, but often look like crumpled paper dolls.  It has a good, intensive storyline, however, and has good replay value.

If you follow the Final Fantasy series and are a big fan, then please play FFVIII.

Of course it's "not as good as FFVII."   But not many games are. This game had big shoes to fill, high standards to keep. If you compare you'll naturally be disappointed. But if you want to immerse in a beautiful RPG world, with creative elements, play this.

Any and all RPGs (Role Playing Games) are esstentially "playing" through a really good novel with you as the main character.

This game was one of the best games that I've ever played. I loved all of the characters and the story line was excellent and immersive. The incredible detail of the characters and graphics were incredible for the PSX. The only thing was that it takes hours of dedication to acually complete the game, also some of the CG guardian scenes took soo long. But overall, it's an awsome game worth the time. Also the soundtrack was absolutely awsome.

This game, Final Fantasy VIII, is a very good game. I played it during summer and I could not stop playing it. Overall it spans 4 discs(included) for a great story of political turmoil and romance. The story starts of with a battle between Squall, protagonist, and Seifer, Squall's rival. You are thrust into these two teenagers' battle. From that point onward you control Squall as you become a SeeD (like a soldier). 5/5 Stars

As most of the reviews said not as good as 7, put that aside and is in it's own right is still a good game. The summon and magic system is difficult to get used to and the way you get magic is also annoying. The story line is not that bad it is up to par with most final fantasy story lines, the only con is Squarsoft tried something new and fell on there face.

This game is a fun vacation from reality. The characters all have wonderful qualities, which really enhance the gameplay as you start out a student but then get thrust into a new world; falling in love for your first time, remembering your childhood, and saving the world. Many twists, turns, and true final fantasy gameplay.
