This is a story of German settlers in Illinois in 1866 where the story begins.  It was in such a community of settlers that the love story of Matthias and Amalia had its beginning.  A stern father prevented such a love to develop and Amalia was forced to marry a man of her father's choice, and with her new husband, they migrated to found a new settlement in the wildest section of Nebraska.

Life went on for the both Amalia and Matthias and he too was married.  They were not to meet for many years, but in tracing the lives of Matthias, Amalia and their descendants to the inevitable crossing of their ways in the present day.  It is a very beautifully written story that you will never forget......The ending will bring a tear to the eye.

This book is no longer in print, but you can probably request it through a library loan system.  It will be worth it to get a hold of it, if you can.  Let me know if you ever read it, I would love to hear what you thought of it.
