Spots and Stripes is a grass-roots organization that doesn't talk about helping feral and wild cats - they actually get to work doing things. They take no salaries or other pay for doing what they do, so all donations go to helping the cats. They encourage others to form their own chapters to help control the feral cat populations by capture-neuter-release to prevent unwanted kittens, and they get the cats checked by vets, then continue to feed and care for the cats in their colonies.
On a global front, they provide assistance and security for leopards, cheetahs, tigers and more on reserves in their native lands.
They do not have a shelter of their own yet, but hope to someday raise the funds to build four shelters for feral cats. One for ferals/kittens that might be domesticated and find homes for; one for ferals that will never be adoptable; one more for "retired" cats whose owners have grown to old, sick, or have passed on. The final shelter would be a quarantine/hospice care area for cats with feline aids or other illnesses that make it impossible to join the others.
Although located in Washington state, they already have chapters in Georgia, California and Kentucky. They have helped other groups and individuals in most of the United States as funds are available, and they help low-income and the elderly in caring for their companions.
They are a 501(c) (3) Registered charity, and could sure use any and all help you can provide. Visit www.spotsandstripes.net for more ways to help.
