Roach tackles the topic of what, if anything, happens to our spiritual selves after death with good humor and both a cultural and scientific perspective. She discusses how various cultures understand the afterlife and how this understanding affects the way they live their lives. The author also looks at various "scientific" methods used to locate and/or quantify the soul. She looks at some famous tricksters, too. Roach also takes a personal perspective on the subject and notes how her studies affect her own views of her inevitable demise. This book is unexpectedly good humored and fun to read -- not at all dark, scary, or depressing.
