Spirit Airlines Is Not Worth Flying

love to travel, expecting good, fair service, world-traveler, appreciative of good service, willing to pay for quality, not afraid of flying

There's been a wave of airline cutbacks in service over the past few years, and customer satisfaction levels for all U.S. flag carriers are at historically low levels. Customer-hostile business practices introduced by cut-rate airlines like Spirit are part of the reason. Seeing passenger-hostile practices percolate to other airlines is the rest of the reason.

Sprit is a sleazy company that civilized humans try to stay far away from. They introduced the idiotic practice of charging for EVEN ONE checked bag --- a practice that previously better airlines are now trying out.

But that's not the only reason to detest Spirit. They have a reputation for abyssmal service in the event you have a flight cancellation or delay, they charge for every single service and courtesy imaginable, they have a scant route map, poor connections, and they love their deceptive advertising, with dirt-cheap rates like 1 dollar flights (all of which are full if you try to book them). They try to trick people into buying unnecessary "flight insurance" which doesn't even pay up in the likely event Spirit cancels your flight. Furthermore, they're deceptive because their sales fares require that you join a "Spirit Club" at a $9 fee. Sheesh! The sleaze never stops at Spirit!!

If you enjoy being treated like dog dirt, then Spirit is the airline for you. Everyone else should stay far away from this airline --- far, FAR away!!

I know you wrote this review quite a few months ago, but I am booked to ride this cattle car this weekend. FYI they have increased the luggage fee!!! It is now $15.00 per bag ONE WAY, and that is if you pre pay! I also had to pay an additional $50.00 to reserve our seats. I guess I'll bring a roll of quarters with me because I have a feeling I will need to slip them into the bathroom door if I want it to open.
