Spiderman 3 Movie —

Spiderman 3 is a must see if you are a true spiderman fan. Other than that I am not sure why you would want to see this movie. There were too many characters and poor development of each one including the black-suited spiderman. I think I will only focus on three of the characters- Spidey, Sandman, and Venom.

Spidey- I have to admit I liked the development of Peter Parker as becoming more self-involved with his superhero status. As the city embraced him, he started to become more self-absorbed. However the alien symbiont development with Spidey was too rushed. The resulting Spidey was just obnoxious, not dark in character. Missing also was the "torment within" as Spidey fought with his inner demons. My two-year old shows more inner conflict when suppressing her desire for a cookie before dinner than Spidey did with separating with the symbiont personality.

Sandman- I understand the need to develop a motivation to why people do bad things, but the take home message of this film was that it is ok to steal, damage property, hurt, kill, and pervert justice as long as your cause is worthy in your mind. Yes, the sick daughter warrants a desperate father attitude, but lacking was the moral consequence to his actions. Further development of the character could have included a responsibility for personal actions and an emphasis on finding other solutions to one's problems. Instead we are left at the end with what was suppose to be an apparent change of heart and forgiveness by Spidey. Had the black-suited Spidey been better developed the introspection from Spidey that he had done terrible things too would have better solidified the point that everyone deserves a second chance. But forgiveness and deserving does not supplant justice or ease the suffering of those afflicted from the Sandman's actions. On a separate note was the Sandman even needed in this film? A focus on Spidey and the alien symbiont could have been enough of a story without having to cram another character into the film.

Venom- I really liked Topher Grace's protrayal of Venom in the film. I must admit I had my doubts when I heard the casting. I would have liked to see a better development of the Venom character as well. Although Venom has an unquenchable hatred for Spiderman, he also has a strong desire for justice... just too strong. The development of Eddie Brock and Venom was non-existent. The movie portrayed them as simple characters out for revenge and the destruction of Spidey.

My hope is if the Carnage character is developed in a future Spiderman movie, that more time will be used to explain that character and his relationship to Venom. But since the Spidey movies seem to be regressing with each sequel, I am not sure if I would want to see another one. Thank goodness I waited until Spidey 3 was on DVD before seeing it.
