I bought a pair of Higher Power by Spanx for my daughter’s wedding. After I bought mine I sent my other daughter a pair thinking they were the answer to bulges.
You want to know what these are?
If you don’t know then you don’t watch Oprah! She is a super fan of the large line of Spanx products. I chose Higher Power because they are said to extend the control above the waistline all the way up to just below the bust line.
They come in bare and black. I chose bare for both of us. We are told that Higher Power has no visible panty line; has a soft non-binding waistband that stays in place; and doesn’t have a leg band so you’ll get a smooth look on your thighs. Higher Power is made of 87% nylon and 13% Lycra Spandex. We are told that they provide medium control.
That all sounded great to me. I tried mine on in a lingerie shop so I knew they fit. They come in A, B, C, D and E sizes. I took a B which at about 135 pounds and 5 feet 4 inches tall fit great.
My daughter was another story. The size chart showed me that she was on the cusp of A and B. I called the company and was told to go with the B. I was told that if Spanx are too tight the top will roll down rather than staying up.
One interesting fact you may want to know. Higher Power, because they are tight and hard to get up and down has an opening allowing the wearer to go to the bathroom. Ok enough about that.
So what happened?
My daughter got hers and tried them on. She has very long legs. The sizes don’t account for this issue so the top went too far up as in over her breasts. They were returned.
Now for my experience….. I ended up not wearing my Spanx. While having my gown fitted I played around with the Spanx under my gown. I found that in spite of being told that the waistband stays in place it doesn’t. I bought special tape to keep clothes in place thinking if I taped the band to my skin it wouldn’t roll down. Well it did.
Other negatives
Sure they are sheer but they felt as if I were going to poke a hole in them.
I caught my rings on the material immediately. Spanx Higher Power just didn’t work.
Perhaps other styles would have or do. However at $34.00 and up I think the Spanx brand is too expensive. You can find similar without the “star power” name for half the price.
Jo says Thumbs Down!
