I started traveling more with Soutwest when I became a companion pass holder with my husband as the primary flyer. The program is not toted as much as it could be and although I have a special card, I only was asked for it one time to produce it at the airpot. Really a blesssing, in case I misplace it. The interesting part for me is watching the actual people running the flight on the plane, I know the training is the same for everyone, but the a happier personality on board can change a flight from boring or uncomfortable to interesting and cheery. I have been exiting a plane seeing wrapper all over the floor, but when I get on a southwest flight I rarely see any trash. I do feel that the rush to put people in their seat for take-off only works well when the flight is not late to landing or late for boarding for problems beyond anyones control. An interesting long distance ( orange county CA to BWI ) flight had the attendents racing peanuts down the aisle and prizes for the winners. Of course the times are changing slowly and the fun Pilots are all gone ( horse hooves, nieghing and "whoo boy" when plane touches down, are gone from my flights. Look into the companion pass program and check for the freebie that Southwest has been offering on certain holidays. We were on a flight Valentines day, and IF I hadn't read the paper in the seat pocket we would not have known to ask for o free drink, no one announced it, no one offered it while the drink orders were being taken. I am glad I knew. The credits that are awarded for flights from Southwest increase when you have their credit card ( CITI BANK), a yearly fee for the card but well worth it while the companion pass is working for you. recently the free earned tickets have been halved when Southwest decided that a person needs two free flight coupons (each way) for certain destinations, I never figured how the designation was made and the company sure didn't annouce THAT with the other advertising .PLUS is the voluntary bump that you can sign up for if the flight is over booked, if you are flexible, Southwest can put you on a list to bump you to another flight, sometimes overnight (I did that last time in Chicago) with a hotel, sometimes just the next ride out, Vouchers for flight cash is what you get and the next ride free.
