Oh man, did they really just say that?
I would like to have heard Trey Parker and Matt Stone pitch South Park to television execs...I barely know how to put into words what these two witty writers accomplish each week.
The Parker-Stone Format
Animated in more than one way, South Park is an incredibly insightful but regularly offensive button-pushing look at life in a Colorado town, as seen through the eyes of four potty-mouth boys who live there. This show doesn't just push the envelope, it jabs and shreds the envelope. Threading a dangerous gauntlet with each show, South Park manages to make powerful statements (political, sociological & ethical) using foul language, pop culture, flatulence jokes, and even UFOs. This odd little cartoon takes on the big dogs: racial tension, sexual orientation and more. Call it 'genius in a strange package.'
The Squirm Factor
The fact that all situations (some realisitic, some sci-fi) revolve around four young kids revs up the Squirm factor to a 10. (This is probably NOT a show to watch with your church-going mom). Have a peek at a clip on the show's web site and you'll see why so many intelligent folks are TiVOing South Park so they can watch it after the kiddies go to bed. I've been at dinner parties where grown men start to imitate Cartman and Stan, and you can't help it, you just start laughing. South Park is addictive, and it's powerful, although no dangerous side effects have yet to be determined.
The Bottom Line: Libby Loves It!
