South Beach Diet Review Summary

The South Beach Diet provides quick weight loss results by lowering your overall carbohydrate intake. Dieters agree that if you can make it through the rough extremely restrictive first two weeks, the South Beach Diet works and is worth the initial struggle. Some even say it is a good diet for diabetics because sugar and carbs are eaten in extreme moderation. Like any quick weight loss diet, the problem with the South Beach Diet is maintaining your weight loss and sticking to the program long term. Some carb cravers say it is too hard to maintain over the long time period. Not the plan for you? Check out our reviews of other diets and choose one that will work for you.

Many people confuse the South Beach diet with the Atkins diet. In the first 2 weeks all sugar and carbs are cut out but afterwards, certain "good carbs" can be added. So this diet is much healthier than Atkins. The first two weeks are hard but worth it! Once you get through the first two weeks, the rest...

I couldn't stick to this.  I was craving carbs so bad after 2 days I quit.  This is great if you don't mind not having toast with your breakfast.  Some of the recipe's in the book were good.  The TV dinners that you can buy are ok but you have to watch what week you are in when buying them.

I've always been thick, big-boned, full-figured, or whatever name you want to call it to soften the blow.  I had decided that I was going to be big forever and was in the process of just accepting that there was nothing I could do about it.  I wasn't going to "diet" because that meant that I would starve, and I'm not a nice person when I'm hungry.  I was starting to exercise, but having asthma means that if I overdo it with the cardio, my chest would burn and I couldn't breathe.  I was great at weightlifting, but that didn't do anything but start to bulk me up.  I had given up.  But then... review »

Almost two weeks ago I was having lunch with a friend.  I asked how her mother in law was doing as she had had gastric bypass recently.  She told me how she had lost 80lbs so far.  I told her that was fantastic.  Then she went on to say how her brother had been dieting lately and had lost 70lbs doing the South Beach Diet.  Something about that stuck in my head for the rest of the lunch.

When I went home that afternoon I decided to look up the diet and research it a bit.  The first thing I did was go on my library's website and place a hold on all the South Beach Diet books they offered. ...

A friend told me she was trying a new diet and wanted a buddy to do it with her. I agreed to look into it since I don't believe in dieting but eating right and exerciesing. After reading the book and seeing the many health benefits, I decided it would be worth the effort since I have many health problems in my family line. It was difficult in the diet stage (2 wks) but I have been feeling wonderful and have lost 24 lbs in about 12 weeks.

Since I already try to practice good eating habits, I found the information in the book to be a wonderful compliment to my routine. I feel much more educated...

I have used the South Beach Diet off and on for the last 6 years. This includes when I was losing the 80 pounds I gained with my first pregnancy. The South Beach diet ABSOLUTELY WORKS. However, it is not for individuals who lack in will power.

The first two weeks, and the most important for weight loss are pretty much no carbs. I have lost between 5-9 lbs each time during this phase. Phase two is easy and healthy and you can lose up to 1-2 pounds a week if you follow the rules. Phase three is commom sense.

Good luck with the South Beach!

I lost alot of weight fast.  For me, the hardest part after getting started, was not having carbs in phase one, but once I got past the 1st 4-5 days it gets easier--the cravings actually stopped!  Once the bulk of my weight came off, then the losing slowed down--which was ok.  This is not so much a diet, as a lifestyle change.  I still limit my carbs & fill in the day with protein instead.  Also, I am now in the habit of 3 healthy meals a day & 3 snacks, so I feel like I am eating all day long!

This diet works wonderes IF you have the self discipline and especially if you need to shed some weight uickly and right before some important event. I could lose like 7 pounds in just the first few days. BUT the porblem lies in keeping it up long term. If you can truly change your eating habits to match what he recommends (which is what we all should be eating everyday, but it's hard to do), you will definitely see the benefits with weight loss, feeling better, having more energy, etc.

This is a great diet.  I always just used to look at fat content and never would be successful.  Now that I look at carbs and fat, I lost 20 lbs. in 2 months just by changing what I eat.  You can still eat foods you love, just may want to try leaner meats and turkey.

While I am not really overweight, I have always wanted to lose the 15 lbs accumulated from my 3 pregnancies.  I have always 'watched' what I ate and calorie counted, but never went on any official diet plan or programs.  When my husband was told by his doctor to lose 15 lbs due to his high cholesterol, I waited to see what he would do.  Well, nothing happened and his doctor recommended perscribing medication.  Instead, my husband and I agreed to both go on the South Beach diet as we had heard good things about it.  I checked out several South Beach books from our local library - including...

The only reason I tried South Beach Diet was on the recommendation of my doctor.  I took a blood test that showed I was at risk for diabetes, and he told me I had to change the way I ate to avoid diabetes, and recommended the South Beach Diet.  It changed my life!  I no longer have problems with my blood sugar levels.

I started the South Beach Diet three years ago, and quickly lost 20 pounds and brought my weight to a healthy level for me.  I was able to maintain my healthy eating habits for about a year, and my weight for close to two years.  And, although I have gained some weight back...

South Beach diet has been my choice because of the ease of organizing your food and the 3 phases.  This is not a diet for "now".  It is a life long change "diet".  The first 2 weeks is the most strict, with eating only lean meats and lots of veggies.  You can have reduced fat peanut butter; reduced fat cheeses; lean cuts of meat; salads, with a limit on certain veggies (sugar content).  Also, no fruit during this 2 week period.  The idea is to jump start your system with healthy foods that don't weigh (lol- get it?!) you down.  There is not to be any caffeine, either.  Sugars and caffeine...

I'm a diabetic (type II) and my nutritionist suggested that I look into the South Beach Diet.  I also had a baby a year and a half ago and have been having trouble getting the extra weight off.  I was always a solid (and healthy) size 8, but now I was a size 12 and hating it.

He told me I could skip the first phase and try to eat the way phase 2 and 3 are suggested.  So I bought the book and read it cover to cover.  I realized that I DID eat like Phase 2 and 3 already so I thought, well maybe I can do Phase 1 for the 2 weeks as suggested see what happens.  So I did.

I lost 7 pounds in those...

If you WANT to lose weight on South Beach...you WILL! If you read this book and check out the food you'll be fine. Depending on your own familiarity with your body and proper eating habits, you can start this diet at the beginner, moderate or super modified levels. The key is being honest about what you do NOT know so this diet can be the best guide for you. First, the food tastes better than any I have found on the market with the same amount of calories. Second, you get FULL....and I mean, you are definitely satisfied with a smile on your face type of full. I know my body and I know where my...

The South Beach Diet was great!  The meals are awesome.  I learned to cook alot of things with natural herbs.  I also learned how to eat proportioned and balanced.  But it is very time consuming to prepare the meals and it did get somewhat on the expensive side.  But all in all, very worth it.                                                                                                                                                                                             ....
