Almost two weeks ago I was having lunch with a friend. I asked how her mother in law was doing as she had had gastric bypass recently. She told me how she had lost 80lbs so far. I told her that was fantastic. Then she went on to say how her brother had been dieting lately and had lost 70lbs doing the South Beach Diet. Something about that stuck in my head for the rest of the lunch.
When I went home that afternoon I decided to look up the diet and research it a bit. The first thing I did was go on my library's website and place a hold on all the South Beach Diet books they offered. The second thing I did was a google search. I found the website and read a bit about it. I found the website was offering a 7 day free trial of the South Beach Diet. I discussed it with my husband and I decided to give it a try. I decided I had had enough with being overweight and it was time to do something about it. So I signed up.
This diet is hard for me but well worth the struggle. You see, I'm a very picky eater and I'm not much of a protein/meat lover at all. I'm very much the carb addict. I'm still in Phase One which takes out all of the carbs out of your diet. This helps you to get rid of your sugar and carb cravings. Phase One lasts 2 weeks. After that I will slowly learn to add in good carbs into my diet like whole wheat, whole grains, and to stay away from things like white potatoes, white sugar and white flour.
The first week was really hard for me, but this second week is getting easier. I'm relearning to love my veggies and creatively cook so the few foods that I do like I don't get tired of or bored with.
This is the first diet that I've actually felt could work for me. I'm loving being 10lbs lighter after the first week and looking forward to being a lot lighter in the future.
