Bottom-line: Over all I am quite pleased with the performance of the Sony WEGA KV 24FV300. Too small for the living or family room, the set is just the right size for our master bedroom.
I am a man; as my wife will most surly attest. And like "almost" all men I love all things electronic; the more buttons, lights, and controls, the better! No, I do not spend all of my time buried knee deep in the written word, or studying the arcane and convoluted tomes of the law, or being a computer geek. I do take an occasional break and lose myself in the increasingly unwashed world of television. And when I do I want to behold a picture that is bright and brilliant, and as vibrant and sharp as the world itself, and with sound that rivals the richness of my living room Bose 501's.
But alas, my old (seven years) second-hand, once repaired RCA 19" color television which lived in the master bedroom of our home was not living up to my exacting standards. I had wanted replace the old girl for years, but budget concerns and a frugal spouse kept me from it. Finally, around Christmas time six years ago I convinced the spouse that it was time, she agreed, and my research began in earnest to find the perfect flat screen 24 - 27" television to adorn our newly painted master abode.
So, off to the web and Best Buy I went to read, look, listen, and feel. Sharp, Phillips, RCA, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Zenith & Sony all fell under the Bards' discerning microscope. In the end, after about a four week search and countless hours of rumination, the Sony WEGA KV 24FV300 received the node. I briefly considered the 27" model of this design, but felt in the finally tally, the cost did not justify the 3 inches I would get in return. Perfection I wanted, a gapping hole in my wallet, I did not. The Sony WEGA KV 24FV300 was affordable at $440.00, with a $40.00 instant discount, and free shipping!
The silver-colored Sony WEGA KV 24FV300 features Sony's distinctive Arc design and sports speakers built into the left and right sides of the screen, as well as reflective speakers facing rear. These are designed to reflect sound off the rear or side walls, thereby simulating surround sound. Sony WEGA KV 24FV300 also boasts WOW with SRS and BBE enhancements, for better bass, mid-range and treble response. Volume is controlled automatically, so your ears are never assaulted by overly loud commercials.
My Viewpoint
The Sony WEGA KV 24FV300, the company's top-of-the-line, 24-inch, analog set, is the idea television for our master bedroom space. It takes its place in the room without overpowering the space. The picture quality is superb, and without peer. The colors are rich and vibrant, sharp and deeply accented. My DVD and VCR playback quality is not compromised as it seemed to be in some reviews of this television; I have mated the Sony WEGA KV 24FV300 with a silver Zenith combo DVD/VCR player. The only complaint I have concerning the picture quality has to do with the darker colors; shades of blacks, brown and gray can get lost in really dark clips, and or shots that are darkly lit. I especially liked that the KV-FV300 gives you the option to disable scan-velocity modulation, a circuit that can introduce overly sharp lines to the picture.
Sound quality is as I expected, deep, rich, and balanced. Sony's WOW technology really delivers audio that almost rivals anything heard in a state-of-the-art movie theatre. I had envisioned purchasing a separate AV receiver and matching bookshelf speakers to complement the Sony WEGA KV 24FV300, which can be plugged into the back of the set, but the sound is so robust, that I have since mothballed the idea. The sound does drop off noticeably while watching DVD's and VCR video tapes. And while annoying, it is not overly so.
Despite some unflattering words about the Sony WEGA KV 24FV300, I have no problems recommending the set. Too small (in my view) for the living room, and or family room, but ideal for a master bedroom, the KV 24FV300 is a perfect visual addition to any master bedroom.
