Small Notebook Not Worth It

By

from Fountain Valley, CA

Comments about Sony Vaio VGN Notebook PC:

The Sony Vaio VGN 688 is a small notebook that comes in a small form factor that is really attractive but lacks the practicality one would want in a notebook. The screen is really small and many websites and movies need to be resized in order to be comfortably viewable. The keyboard is also a joke. It is more comparable to a smartphone keyboard then a notebook keyboard. It takes so much more time to write an email on this. I really like its small size but I regret that I didn't get a netbook instead. At least with a netbook I have more room to play around with. The battery life on this is only about 2.5 hours max. This notebook is more of a toy then an actual computer. I wouldn't recommend this product since there are so many better options out there.

Great in the saddle bags or in your pack!

Comments about Sony Vaio VGN Notebook PC:

I've had six laptop's since I've started using computers.  By far the Sony Vaio is the smallest, most compact laptop I have ever owned.  I have taken this computer everywhere since I've had it.  I bought a mainly for the small size.  I carry this in my backpack when I'm out hiking.  I also carry it in my motorcycle saddle bags. I mainly carry it in my shoulder pack.  It's so small that we does I have it.  It may be small but it packs a heck of a punch. The wireless capability is excellent.  It even has a built in Verizon air card.

The only drawback to this computer is the original capacity battery it only gives you two hours of use. I have taken this computer to work, camping, hiking, library almost everywhere.  The high-capacity battery gives you plenty of time between charges.  The screen is easy to read of course fully adjustable.  The function keys includes screen zooming.

The wireless has an external switch which is nice to keep the battery from being drained I installed the high capacity battery and get five hours of use out of it.

You can purchase a special short plug for the power supply the original cord is about 15 inches long and takes up a lot of room.  And now I have room for the mouse I use.  It comes with a separate pouch for both the computer and the power supply.

Don't let the smallness of this computer fool you it has two gigs of RAM and can come with up to a 250 GB hard drive.  I hear some people are even replacing the hard drives with a solid state drive.  Some of the newer Sony P's come with the new "N" wireless.  A you can buy them with a solid-state hard drive.

All I can say is I love it!
