I am online all the time.  I even go to school online.  I needed a computer that would be able to keep up with all the graphics and needs for school and this computer does it.  I love how quickly it loads in the mornings.  This computer came with all the programs I really need.  Also, it is easy to upload whatever else is necessary.  My only problem, if it is a problem, is that the battery does not last for as long as I would like.  This is still an outstanding item and I am always on my computer now.

This Sony laptop is by far the worst computer I have ever dealt with.

The ridiculous amount of bloatware that it comes with took several hours to remove, which was only possible with feedback from others who had already gone through the process.

The mouse button and touch pad wore out within 6 months. I had them replaced and they wore out in 5 months. I've spoken with several people who have all had the same issue. The only solution is to use an external mouse, which is very inconvenient for a "laptop".

The Sony overheats unless it is sitting on a wooden desk. It will freeze within 10 minutes if sitting on my lap on the train or sitting on the arm rest of my couch even on very cool days. The only solution is to run a free standing fan pointed at the vents or to buy a cooling pad.

The wireless card is a Marvell Yukon, one of the cheapest and most poorly made wireless cards around. It will cause more headaches than you thought possible..

The battery lasted less than 3 months. Whether this is due to poor quality or something that I inadvertently did is unclear, so I can't blame Sony for that.

The Sony is loaded with Vista, which it is barely capable of supporting.

I would advise anyone thinking of buying a sony to avoid them. Its possible to buy an HP or Dell for less, with more features and much better quality.

Lightweight but powerfull

By

from Omaha, NE

Comments about Sony Vaio Notebook PC:

When I bought this Sony laptop I didn't mean to. We bought it after my HP laptop died (dead screen). We bought it on sale in local store and we were very glad that we did it! Its light weight, has good battery life (about 3 hours when you do regular stuff and about 2 hours when you watch movies). It has beautiful screen, integrated web camera, several USB ports, DVD-RW combo. Also it has 2Gb of memory, Intel Core2 Duo T7100 1.8Ghz process. Originally it came with Windows Vista but with Vista on board it was very sluggish, I decide to downgrade to Windows XP (it was pretty hard to do since there were no drivers for it for XP, I found them much later). After this modification it starts to fly! Everything loads instantly and works great. We use it mostly for travel since it pretty compact and light. Overall we are very satisfied with this Sony laptop. We highly recommend it to all our friends.

This machine is a dog...big, shaggy dog.

By

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Sony Vaio Notebook PC:

This machine was a horrible experience.  I'm a professional consultant, and a client needed work on her machine.  It was loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium--delivered with only 1GB of RAM, and it was a *dog*.  Stupidly, mind-numbingly slow--then I found it can only be loaded with 2GB *maximum*.  There's literally no way to make it sing with Vista.  The only thing I can imagine is that Sony jumped on early specifications for Vista requirements from Microsoft and designed it to those inadequate requirements.  My opinion of Sony has been dropping as fast as the stock market, given their horrible support, but this machine just caused another plunge.  Worse, for the price I could get a *netbook* that outperforms this machine.

If you're into top performance, don't get the VGN N120

By

from New Iberia, LA

Comments about Sony Vaio Notebook PC:

I have received my Sony Vaio VGN N120G roughly about two years ago as a gift. It has a nice look to it, it's a 15 inch, white at the top, silver at the bottom with light gray keys. At first, it was okay, it didn't have great specs, but it's useful. You can browse the internet, listen to music, the volume isn't as loud as I wanted it to be, thought, the graphics is just okay. As for gaming, it's not superb, but it'll get you through it, though you cannot play certain games like counter-strike because the video card wasn't compatible. After nearly a year of usage, it started to go nuts on me. My C drive was totally messed up. As I reboot it, my C drive wouldn't fully restore, I'm missing a My Video folders. It crashes really often. It lags constantly, and there are alot of programs that no longer want to work for me. My cd drive doesn't even work. I don't even know what happened to it, it just stopped working for me one day. It won't read cds, and when I try to burn one, it messes up my blank cd, making the capacity full, even if there's nothing on it. There are only 2 USB slots, an SD and a PRO slot, speaker and microphone hole, and an output to connect to a tv. phone wire and ethernet hole in the back with a 19.5v charger. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it.

Fast, reliable, and sturdy. A great laptop for college and home.

By

from Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Comments about Sony Vaio Notebook PC:

This laptop is amazing! Right now, I'm using it to type up this review, and it's working fine for me. It's really easy to use, and, comparing with all the other laptops in my house, it's the fastest one. You can store a lot of files, and with Windows Vista, everything seems easier. Personally, I'd prefer Windows Vista over Widows 7. It's not that light though, but it can withstand many hits and doesn't scratch easily. If you're looking for a laptop that's durable, fast, and easy to use, this is the one! The speed for internet really depends on what browser you're using. Internet Explorer isn't that fast, and is on the bottom of my list. Next is Firefox. It's great that you can add plug-ins, but it gets very clattered. Second is Apple Safari. Not the fastest browser, but it's worth using compared to IE. The fastest I think for internet browsing is Google Chrome. It goes great with this laptop, not to mention you can personalize the theme. Overall, this laptop is great. I've had this one for about 2-4 years now and it never had let me down. Buy it, even though it's a little out of date, and it'll be worth your money.

A sweet little machine

By

from Granite Falls, NC

Comments about Sony Vaio Notebook PC:

The laptop is great and I have no complaints.  My only difficulty with it is Windows Vista which causes is to run quite slowly at times.   My machine came pre-loaded with Vista.  Otherwise it's great, easy to use and great value for the price.
