Sony VAIO VGN-SZ450N/C PC Notebook —

I bought my Vaio for two reasons, one to have when I traveled and because it was on sale. Mine is the model PCG-K45 with a 15.1" screen, 80 gig hard drive and 512 megs of memory. I upgraded my memory to 1 gig about 6 months ago. The processor is a pentium 4 at 3.2 ghz and runs Windows Xp Home Edition.

My Experience

The thing I like most about my little laptop is not only can I take it with me, but the built in WiFi works great. I have never had any trouble connecting on the road and I always have a fast connection where ever I go. I have the stock graphics card that came with it and the colors are vibrant and clear. The only problems I have had with it have been minor and easy to fix. I used to cuss like a sailor at it because every-time I tried to type anything my fingers would skim across the built in mousepad. I always use an external mouse so I just disabled the built in one and I have had no problems since.

I have found I need to defrag my harddrive on it more than my PC but I figure its because of the much smaller harddrive on the laptop (80 gig) as compared to my pc (300 gig) The battery doesn't seem to last as long as I thought they should, I get about 1 1/2 hours on a full charge. That kinda sucked for me on an 8 hour flight to Hawaii and no way to plug in the adapter, but I made do anyway. Weighing in at just over 10lbs. ( thats bag, adapter, mouse, laptop and a few games) it's not bad to carry around.

A Few Perks

I am new to Kansas so having a laptop that will connect to the many WIFI hot-spots in any large city is a plus. I can now log into mapquest.com in my truck and not get lost while learning my way around Wichita. I can also find places I would never know about while driving around. I know it would be better to have a GPS unit, but until I have the extra money to spare I have my Vaio to guide me around.

Being a lover of games I can also play them with ease on my Vaio as the graphics are great and for a laptop the sound is not too bad either. I have even used it to entertain the kids on trips, just poop in a DVD and they can watch movies to amuse themselves on long trips.

Conflicts

There have been a few conflicts between the Vaio and Norton in the past. I had all kinds of problems at first with Norton 2005 and the Vaio. But then I upgraded to Norton 2007 and they went away on their own. Mine has a DVD player in it and I can even play movies I have burned myself with no conflicts.

Bottom Line

My wife is on her second Sony Vaio ( the first she bought used 5 years ago) and I on my first. I have been thoroughly impressed with the speed with which it works as well as the built in wireless feature. Although a little more expensive than some models of laptops it has proved its worth to me many times over. I have now even started using it at home instead of sitting in the home office all the time. My Vaio has a new home beside my recliner in the family-room. So now we are a 3 Vaio family and my daughter just loves her new handmedown laptop.
