I purchased my Sony Vaio laptop in October of 2005 since I was at that time doing contract writing and editing. I needed to be able to have portability and wireless capability. At the time I also purchased a wireless router. The system was very easy to set up, the computer worked extremely well, and except for a small problem with the sound card (which was covered under my warranty) the unit has worked fairly flawlessly ever since and I'm still using it 4 years later (almost unheard of with electronics like computers). Last year I did change out the hard drive due to a problem with overheating (I'm not sure why the hard drive caused it to overheat) but when I swapped out the old one for a new one the problem went away. I also doubled my storage space in the process.
Just like any computer on the market, you will occasionally run into some little bumps in the operation, but nothing that the occasional system restore won't fix.
I highly recommend the Sony Vaio Laptop series with the XP operating system. It's a solid product and worth the money.
