we just went to buy our ps3 and found that you best be careful what youre buying. tthe regular ps3 you find for between 300 and 350 dollars plays only ps3 games. if you want to play ps or ps2 games you have to spring for the 80 gig backward compatible system which runs in the 500 dollar range. then it also takes an additional adapter which is sold seperately for 15 to 20 bucks in order to use ps and ps2 memory cards. all told the ps3, 80 gig, adapter, and two games was nearly 700 dollars. each to his own, but personally i think it should have equiped to do the dishes, wash the clothes, and walk the dog at that price. on the bright side, it is amazing. the blue ray technology is awesome. never thought i'd hear myself use that word. it has the most lifelike graphics i've ever seen. the kids love it. but at 700 bucks I think it should love us back.

In response to kid-kansas's comment from Feb 15, 2008 at 12:24AM:

I was going by what we were told at the store. We were told that only the eighty gig was backwards compatible. They may have stopped production of the 20 gig but everywhere we went the shelves were full of them. We had to hunt to find an 80 gig model. All I was trying to do was to warn the next buyer to expect to spend more than they first expected.

The only ps3 not backward compatible is the 40gig model, the 20 an 60gig are hardware emulated and the 80 is software emulated for that function. I think they stopped production on the 20gig model though.
