Our second Playstation 2 went belly up this week - after one of the kids bought a $49 game. This is not a SPECIAL MOMENT as you might guess.
Our first game stystem was Sega. OK. It was not the hot system. They didn't have the game selection. So, we ended up with the first Playstation. Glory days! We're in the money - or spending money at least.
The first PS broke a little after the one year mark. How sad.
Since the investment in games was high, we stuck (or were stuck) with Playstation.
We've had two PS2s in just a few months over 2 years. Yep. The consoles last a little over a year.
I was not noting the trend. DUH.
The first PS was when the boys were younger. I thought they must have been hard on the game player. I made the same excuse for the PS2 - the first one. This week, with the second PS2, crapping out, I'm thinking that Sony is doing us way wrong. The boys are 14 and 17 now and have been really careful with the second system.
OK. I could chalk it up to our usage. But, a couple of their buddies were over this week - because their PS2 broke down. The other kids wanted to play some new sports game. Everyone gathers here where the PS2 is rocking - for a while.
I really do not appreciate buying a game player every year and one or two months. The PS and PS2 were not real expensive. That rack you on the games.
Now Sony wants some insane amount of money for PS3. It would make more sense to go with the newest player rather than the old model especially with that PS2 going bad every year twice. Actually, it would make more sense to go with another brand. But, Sony has sold us a b-load of games that cost a bundle and can't be played on other systems. On top of that, I don't know if another brand would be any better. One of our relatives has the Cube thing, and his is in the shop. It, at least, broke before the year warranty was up.
I don't mind putting some money into a game system and some games for the kids. They do love them. I do resent greatly that the companies make crappy products and sell high priced games that require buying the consoles over and over.
I think I should pack up the kids and send them to Sony. Let Sony explain to the kids why they make darn cheap products that break all the time. Let them explain why they charge so much for games that it's hard to cut the losses.
If you're just getting on the game train, be warned. The game companies will suck you dry and disappoint your kids year after year.
Shame on Sony!
