sony ss-b1000 are great value for the price

i have always been impressed with sony products, and this product does not disappoint. it is a good value for the price paid. is best with those folks who are not very much into home theatre, but wants something better than just the TV speakers.i have not owned a speaker system before and i was impressed with this set right off the bat. also please note youll have to buy an audio receiver to hook these up to - they do not just plug into the wall and work. They do not hook up to your computer as well. the speakers are a good size, and should be placed at listening level on stands - or like as the descripiton shows - on bookshelves. overall great value, great sound, and i would recommend this. go sony!

Sony SS-B1000 is a great value

I use these speakers as wide and high channels in a dedicated home theater and they perform incredibly. I originally tested them in the room as front L & R with music to see how they sounded and I was impressed for such a small speaker at a tiny price. I used one of these as the opposite to a larger SS-B3000 and found them well matched to the larger speaker and able to hold up well despite not being 3-day like the larger speaker. Bottom end is missing so they do need to be paired with a subwoofer but provide excellent sound.

Very harsh mid-range heavy sound.

I bought these speakers to use as a small two channel system in my room hooked to a Kenwood stereo receiver. Let me say first off these things sound bad, absolutely no bass and the treble is extremely harsh and fatiguing to listen to. The cabinets are very thin and not damped at all so your can hear a strong coloration of the sound from the cabinet resonance. This speaker puts out loads of distortion and does not sound clean or clear even at low volume levels. The grill blocks a very large portion of the sound and muddies it badly, so you will have to take it off, even hooked up to a subwoofer these things sound awful with huge holes in the frequency response and large amounts of distortion, specifically intermodular distortion and harmonic distortion. I strongly recommend you do not buy these and save up a little bit of money to get some decent polk bookshelves or something nicer.
