Sony - KDL-46XBR2 46in. HDTV LCD Television —

When my wife decided to redecorate the living room my first thought was "Oh nuts, here we go again." When she said the new entertainment center she liked would never hold our old TV and could I look into buying a new one, I thought, "Yippee!" and  "Who am I to stand in the way of interior design?"

We had not bought a new TV in so long I took some time to do some serious research into what to buy. Plasma, LCD, Flat Screen, Projection, Direct View, 1080, 720 were all terms I knew, or at least heard of, but as far as what would be best for us I had no idea. I was not even sure what size to get. I finally settled on the 1080p LCD 46in. Sony because it seemed to be the best picture and nicest looking of the group. The Sony was slightly more expensive but the picture looked crisper and the colors seemed truer.

We have a living room that is on the smaller side and when we first brought this TV home my wife and I feared we had overdone things. Now that we have had the TV for a few months we are very happy with it. The picture is great and there are enough inputs to handle all the various devices we have plugged in with room for expansion. Sony has a nice feature that allows you to "turn off" unused video inputs so that they are automatically skipped when you scroll through the inputs.  The TV looks great in the finished room. The picture is better than I have seen on other flat screen TVs of this size and the colors are unbelievable.

The remote that comes with the TV was almost too complicated, overly large and not well designed. It is a "universal" remote but does not do a very good job of controlling other devices. The other feature of the TV I dislike is that it changes from input to input very slowly using the TV/Video button (possibly why the video inputs can be turned off) and the only direct way, I have found, to go directly from one input to another it through the menu. Of course, both these issues have been resolved, with a true universal remote.

Overall, I am very happy with the TV and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a LCD TV. I feel justified in giving a perfect rating.

This TV has been replaced by the XBR4 and is no longer available except as a closeout.

Timely review, I am in the same boat as you were in scant months ago. It has been a while since we bought a new TV and I am looking into HDTV. I heard Sony is the way to go and you just comfimed it; thanks!

Bubba, here is my question: How is this TV different than the Visio GV47L 47-Inch LCD 1080p TV reviewed on the site. The Sony is the same size as the Visio but twice the price. What do you think accounts for the difference?
