Instead of using removable media (tapes, cds, flash drives), the SR80 records to a 60 Gigabyte hard-drive - up to over 40 hours of video! It comes with software to either download to your computer and/or right to DVD.
The sound quality is great! I've seen other videos where you can't hear a thing, but the SR80's microphone picks up sounds well. It also comes with a cable that you can hook directly to the TV to view videos/pictures. The still photo quality isn't as good as you'd get with a good digital camera, but it's pretty decent. And it beats having to carry a camcorder and a camera everywhere.
Other features include:
-800 times digital zoom
-nightshot plus mode for low-light video
-easy mode (great for the not so tech-y among us!) :)
-a "still photo" mode
-on-screen playback
-a port for additional light or microphone
-touch-screen controls
-panoramic view option
-one-touch DVD burn
-remote control
-automatic shutoff after a few minutes of inactivity to preserve battery life and
-several other features I haven't even tried yet.
The only downside is the battery it came with only lasts about 90 minutes. We bought the extended-life battery separately, which lasts around 300 minutes, solving that problem.
