The Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 is awesome!

With that being said, now let me explain why.

What is it?
The Sony Handycam (Model DCR-SR42)
is a hand-held digital video camera recorder.  Instead of using a DVD disk or VCR tape (think old school video cameras), the Sony Handycam has a 30 GB built in hard drive that can hold up to 20 hours of video taping!

The LCD swivel screen also is a touch screen (options can be made on the camera itself, as well).  The swivel screen is 2 1/2 inches big.  The Sony Handycam can take video and digital still pictures.

Hooking the camera up to your computer is a breeze. ...

I almost absolutely love this. I will make sense of that through this review. As for the video part, this camcorder for the most part is awesome. It is very lightweight and small, so long periods of recording are no problem. Do have a light for when recording in dark. Love the ability to be recording then switch to picture mode with a flick of my finger then switch back. Downside, have to stop recording to catch the moment. The camera is only 4 megapixels, and no flash. I didn't really buy it for the picture ability, or expect it to replace my digital camera. So, as far as a video camera, with...

For a consumer who needs 8mm/Hi8/digial 8 functionality, the TRV460 is an obvious choice. But for the consumer who is looking to venture into the MiniDV format (overall smaller camcorder/tape size), the GR-D33 might be a good stepping stone camcorder. The GR-D33 promises to have good video and low light performance, so the slight upgrade investment may be worth it. Making the transition has its pros and cons, the pros being, if you own an older Digital8 camcorder with a DV in/out port, you have the option of digitally copying your older tapes to the newer format. MiniDV tapes are more expensive,... review »

From afar, the right side of the HV20 has a familiar horizontal design akin to the Sony HC7, albeit with a fresh coat of silver paint. These camcorders have similar tape hatch designs. Only on the HV20, you'll find the microphone jack, AV/headphone jack, and component terminal hiding behind a rubberized port cover toward the lens end of the camcorder. Although we've blasted Canon in the past for equipping their camcorders with flimsy plastic port covers, the HV20 proudly sports a burly, flexible enclosure. Mounting both the mic and headphone jacks in one location is easy on the memory. But because... review »

My husband and I recently purchased this camcorder, and we absolutely love it. It is so light and small that you can just take it anywhere. The picture quality is great and we really like all of the features the camcorder had to offer. This is our very first camcorder and it took us a while to pick the one we wanted, we shopped around and compared it to others and this was the one we liked that fit our budget.

very impressed with quality and very conscience of the light weight, and ease of use. Picture is clear and vivid.  Really easy enough for the amituer to use.  Hope  you will give it a try.  Found it easy to down load to computer,,,,small enough to put in over size pocket.  Easy to delete any pic you don't like..

After carefully comparing current options on the market, I am very glad that I chose this particular product.  It is easy to use, and convenient to transport wherever I go.  The small size should not fool you--this is a quality item, lightweight, and very fun to use.
