I upgraded to this phone after my Motorola SLVR started to fall apart. What I was looking for in a phone was music capabilities, a decent camera, NOT a flip phone, and something affordable and so after shopping for a while I decided on the Sony 580i.

What I do like about this phone:
  •      It's a slider....

I fell in love with this phone when they first came out when I found it on the internet. I had to wait 4 months until my old phone broke for my parents to agree to let me upgrade my phone early. I got this phone, and at first, it was really great. However, I text everyday, and it didn't take me long... review »

I've loved this phone. I'll tell you why, then add the few cons I've encountered.

 Love:

FM Radio. This was important to me, so I can listen to music, or FM sports.

Walkman: I've loaded mp3s, wavs, wma, aac, you name it, this phone will play it.

Expandable storage: I've put a 4gb micro card in it. I don't think I'll ever use that much storage space. Make sure you get the micro version M. The regular micros won't work.

Video: Well, maybe I will use up the 4gb. I have used a freeware to convert home movies, public domain video, and YouTube videos to the Mpeg4 format. It's silly, but fun!

 Phone: Oh...

I absolutely adore my Sony Ericsson W580i Walkman. On the days I forget my iPod, or when I'm alone at work, I always have my favorite songs right there in my pocket (although you need to buy a specific memory card to store a desent amount of music and pics). It's a huuuge upgrade from my last phone, and a major improvement. Before I got my walkman, I had an LG flip phone. It was my first flip AND camera phone, but compared to the Walkman, it's pictures came out crappy and useless. My Walkman takes very decent pics for a phone, and I'm easily able to send and recieve pics to and from friends. I... review »

My daughter now says that she's "in style" with her new (Pink) Sony Ericsson W580i Walkman phone. It's a slim slider phone and it's loaded with music and multimedia features. She can listen to her music or tune in to the built-in FM radio. It takes crisp pictures with the 2MP camera, which you can add tons of neat special effects to. You can customize your caller ID with multi-color light effects. It features Memory Stick Micro expandable memory card slot to store more of your favorite songs (which we did because it was free with a full rebate) and photos. It even has cool new features such as...

I've had The Sony Ericsson W580i for about 4 months now and it is AMAZING!!! It has a great camera at 2.0 megapixels, and takes pretty good quality pictures. It has a pretty good phone memory, which you can upgrade using an Mini Sd card (I have 2 gigs) I love the fact that this can be your MP3 Player!!! I have tons and TONS of music on the phone with the ability to add more. It has a great feature that allows you to change songs just by shaking the phone...makes it easier when your doing something else and need a change of song. The only downsides, this phone needs a flash for the camera. That... review »

I read what others have written in their reviews and all I can say is they don't have the same piece of junk that was sold to me.  Yes the features, such as 2 mega pixel camera, fm radio etc are great and the main reason I bought the phone, but everytime I try and use the phone it will go to the internet or the mp3 player right in the middle of dialing or texting.  You then have to start over.  It takes 2 or 3 tries everytime I try to text, to complete the text.  This phone may work if you have tiny fingers, or if your buying a phone and not planning on calling or texting anyone and just using...

Great phone. The price was a bit much .. but I outright bought it ... the applications are awesome .. still learning something new about my phone daily.

The music part of the phone is awesome. I am loving it. Over all its a great phone ...

The power button works .. you get to choose what profile you want your phone under (like the old nokias). It vibrates when you turn it back on so you know you've held it long enough. The back stays on .. .it comes off only when you try to take it off .. unless you drop it and send it flying across the room. The sim card . you need to use the cover or a bent...

I love this phone. It's small easy to use, lightweight, and if you buy a memory card for it...I promise you will never be sorry you bought the phone. I charge it once at night when I go to bed and pretty much use it all day and still have atleast half a battery left in it, when I hit the hay that night.

I use this phone all the time, I've gone several days without charging it and it stands up well. I've dropped it several times, and it's stood up to the abuse with no dents or chips yet!!!

I have over 90 pics on the phone, 21 videos I've made ranging from 5-15 minutes in length. I've recorded...

this is the 2nd Sony Walkman phone I've had and I absolutely LOVE it.  There are more features on it than my previous Sony phone, like a Fitness counter that tracks how many miles I've run, or how many steps I've taken in a day, how many calories I've burned, etc.
It also has 5 different alarm settings, which is good because who likes to get up at the same time EVERY day, especially on the weekends!
The only thing I do miss from my old Sony is the fact that it doesn't have a flashlight to help me see in the dark, or the flash to take pix in low-light situations.
Other than that, if Sony made...

Sony Walkman W 580I Cell phone. My daughter got this phone and loved the look. It's sleek, pocket sized, and attractive looking. The music player is easy to use, and sound great with the headphones it comes with. But those qualities cannot carry over to the poor quality this phone was made with.

After having it only 3 weeks the keypads began cracking....and cracking... The colored lights that go off when the phone rings ceased to work. We called our service provider and complained about the keys and they sent out a new one. With in the week she had it the keys began cracking again! Also the...

The Sony Ericsson W580i is the third Sony cell phone I've owned.  All three had great features though the first had bad software. The second was lost and I got this one as a replacement and I couldn't be happier.  I don't spend a ton of time using the internet on my phone so I've found the walkman features and phone capability very practical.  For any significant number of songs or pictures you have to add a flash memory card, but that also makes it expandable.

I commute a lot by mass transit and the ability to put songs and podcasts on my phone has been a great benefit.  In addition, with...

Got this as a replacement phone a while back.  Couldn't be happier with it.  It has the fm radio, which I like, but have to use the wired headset to start it, being that it needs an antenna.  Always have had sony phones and this one has the same menu layout, which I am accustomed to now.  dedicated music button and programmable center buttons are great, and the shake/shuffle feature I haven't gotten to try yet, but it's a novel idea.  Call quality is great and although past sony phones lacked on talktime I have no complaints with this one.  I prefer the w810 as it is the last of the sony's... review »

I have this phone, sony ericsson w580i, in pink and I love it.  It plays all the songs I love to hear in several different formats including mp3.  It has neat lights on it.  Beautiful picture quality and nice videos.  I can listen to radio stations and watch downloaded videos.  I also use the bluetooth to connect to my laptop and can transfer all media between the two and use my phone as a modem to connect to the internet.  There is a program on it called fitness.  It works like a pedometer.  It tells how many steps you took, how far you walked or run, it says how many calories you burned. ... review »
