Great Sony portable DVD player!

5

I originally purchased an Insignia portable DVD player with an extended warranty. After having to replace this brand twice I opted to upgrade to this Sony Portable DVD player and it has been great. It has help up to a 2 and a 6 year old trying to operate and push buttons. It plays DVDs that the Insignia player would not play and has a great picture. The battery life is decent and it is great for keeping the kids occupied during long trips. The button for removing the dvd could have been placed a little better ... it is accidently hit often and usually this restarts the dvd when you shut the lid again. But this is a minor inconvenience. Over all a great product.

A great portable DVD player for young kids

We recently bought the Sony DVP FX810 at Best Buy.  It is small, works well and seems to be very durable.  The battery life lasted for a flight from Chicago to San Francisco.  The biggest innovative feature is the screen that turns around and lies flat and the screen that seems to be made of a very durable material.  Both perfect for kids who are holding it in their lap and dropping it.   So far we are very happy with the **Sony - DVP-FX810. **

not very good customer service

We bought this dvd player a few months back and have had a lot of problems with it. I mainly purchased it for my daughter to use in her chariot stroller while I ran and walked with her. The player itself is pretty slick, I like the design and I liked the price. It came with a car charger and little remote (which I found silly!) and was pretty good value for the money. About a month ago it started not being able to read discs. It would read them but then just stop and freeze on a picture and not be able to FF or pause or anything. I contacted Sony about this problem and their customer service in India was NOT helpful. They wanted to charge me 35.00 to mail the unit somewhere to have fixed under the warranty. It didn't cost a whole lot more than that after I had used coupons and discounts to purchase it in the first place. Not happy with Sony's customer service or warranty plan. Probably won't purchase another Sony.

I LOVE this portable DVD player..    the sound could be a bit louder and  I seem to hit the release button on the large flat rechargeable on the bottom of the unit.  Aside from that..  I love the sound quality,, the picgture quality  and  the size of the screen , the way the screen swivels completely around.   A favorite feature is that when you shut off the unit,  and go back to it later, the player holds your spot..     I It fits securely in cases made for that specific size unit - to be used in your vehicle. What a great way to keep kids entertained on long car rides. You can used the attached rechargeable battery   which lasts 6 hourse or use  the adaptor that plugs in to your lighter.    The unit also plays Cds.  and CD-Rs.   I am a busy Mom with little time to watch tv.. , I borrow Dvd's of movies and television show from my local library and carry this player from room to room as I get housework done  .   I Love it

Nice portable DVD player by Sony

Sony DVPFX810 portable DVD player I have in black, very stylish. It has an 8inch LCD widescreen sized screen, which is able to swivel 180 degrees. It has a rechargeable battery which has great life  I can still use to watch on battery or car adapter for use on the road. It is decently lightweight about 5 or so pounds. The screen picture is decent, nothing stunning but the sound I wasn't too impressed, then again its just a portable unit, so I hook it up to headphones and that solves that issue. Not really much can be done with such small speakers on the unit so I don't blame it. Another issue is the glare on the screen but it helps somewhat to make adjustments to the screen, which can be an issue when outdoors and while traveling in the car. But for the price its a nice solid , durable, machine with great battery life that I like. I would say its a must have for families that like to travel with children to keep them preoccupied.

great portable dvd player

This DVD player produces a great picture with good screen brightness/color/clarity. I am especially impressed with the sound quality.  We purchased this to use in the car for grandchildren on long trips.  This has extra features such as the swivel screen being able to be adjusted to tilt backwards.   The headphone jack is the standard  3.5mm.which provides the convenience of using headphones during the times others do not want to listen to ithe DVD.  The sound is very clear with headphones as well as without the headphones.  We had reviewed the Sony and others and are not disappointed with this player.  This DVD player has great quality and  convenience.   This DVD player has a long battery life which seems to be about 4 to 5 hours and of course the capability of using the car charger cable.  The Sony is a bit heavier than some portable DVD players, but well worth the extra battery life.  Highly recommend it.

good quality but high priced

This Sony is a very sturdy portable dvd player.  It is built well and really feels it compared to cheaper brands.  It plays nicely and I have not had any skipping problems at all.  I do have a few other brands like RCA and Venturer and I have to admit that they work well too and I'm not sure the Sony is worth the high price.  Our Venturer portable dvd player is a third of the price of the Sony and I'm sure it will last more than a third as long.  We have found them all to have great battery life of generally a little longer than a movie and they are easy enough for our kids to use as well.  The screens can be hard to see in bright light unless they are plugged in which is often the case with electronics that are back light.  We use them in our van for long car rides and for that reason alone they are worth every single penny when you have young children.  The piece and quiet is soooo nice!  Buy one!

i love the sony player

i wanted a portable dvd player so that my kids could have something to occupy them in the car when we went to visit grandma and grandpa who lived 3 hours away. i looked around for a while then found the sony player and fell in love with it. i love the extra features on the player that are not on other players. it is great being able to put the screen all the way back. the headphone jack is standard  3.5mm. that is convenient and nice for me because i am able to use it with all the headphones that i own. the sound is really good when i don t have any headphones hooked up to it. all the kids in the car can listen to the movie that is playing on the sony player without any problems with audio. when i got the sony player, it was very easy to start it up as well. it has a quick charge time and i also like it because i can use it for a very long time. Yes, this is one dvd player that has a long battery life.

Good Alternative to having a built in dvd player in the car

This is our second sony DVD player - our first one was stolen and so we could not live without it. Prior to owning a tv, we used this little dvd player to watch movies on the weekends. We have also taken this portable DVD player with us on long airplane flights. We can usually watch about two and half fulll lenght movies prior to the battery needing a recharge. This is excellent considering we can fly across the country and be fully entertained. The sound is excellent even without headphones plugged into the unit. I only wish it had two spots for head phones, because normally more than one person is watching the movie. I would consider this gadget a waste of money if you own a laptop that can play movies. Now that we have a laptop, we rarely use the DVD player for anything but when friends with kids come over to visit and the kids need entertainment. Overall, this is DVD player offers great quality.

Almost perfect

Great DVD player.  Long battery life (6 hours), nice screen, easy to use. It comes with a remote control and car adapter as well. The only bad thing is that the volume does not go as loud as I would like it to.  I tried to use it in the hospital and couldn't quite hear it (unless using headphones), and it sounds a little tinny too.
