I bought this camera to take with me to Disney World. I am certainly not disappointed with my purchase - I took over 400 photos and have only deleted 20 of them. The majority of the pictures were sharp with excellent color. I used the optical zoom quite a lot - and this worked really well. I disabled the digital zoom. All the pictures were taken at the highest quality so I could edit later if necessary. I took a lot of night shots of firework displays -  I would certainly recommend this to anyone wanting a convenient, easy to use camera. I spent a lot of time in the evenings scrolling through all my pictures, so the batteries were really put to the test! I do like a viewfinder and this camera does not have one - but it really wasn't a problem and even the shots I took when I couldn't really compose the image worked well. I have had this camera for about a year now, and just love it!! I even said that if it somehow broke, i'd replace it with a new one of the model. It takes great pictures with super clarity , almost too close.lol.This is a great point and click for the price. It's small, lightweight, and works very well on the auto settings. I purchased a memory card so I could take more photos at one time,(does not come with one) and rechargeable batteries and pack. Those are a must! Digital cameras use up battery life in no time flat, so invest in some rechargeable AA batteries as well, and you'll love having this handy camera. It takes clear bright pictures, I adore it!

The Christmas before my husband deployed my dad bought both of us this camera. I wanted a digital camera so I could take tons of pictures and upload them to the computer and share with my husband...and my hubby wanted a camera to capture moments during his deployment. My dad got lucky during Black Friday sales and got these two cameras. Its my first digital camera and it has done a wonderful job keeping up with my photography needs. It takes excellent pictures and I have always managed to capture cute pictures of my niece even when she wouldn't hold still for long. This camera is very durable, hubby's survived for an entire year in Iraq and still works perfectly, mine survives being in the bottom of my purse lol. My only negatives is that it takes it awhile to get in focus causing me to miss some really cute photo opportunities, sometimes it will not stay in focus and several pictures will be blurry and ruined, battery life definitely doesn't seem to last very long anymore, and it in no way can keep up with my 8 month daughter. Probably due to it taking so long to get in focus / refocus I miss alot of shots of her. This camera has done well for the two years we have had it, it served it purpose but I think for us its time for something new. I would recommend this camera but not for someone trying to take alot of pictures quickly.

What a disappointment!

By

from Pickens, SC

Comments about Sony - Cybershot S650 Digital Camera:

I have a high-end Sony digital camera and a Canon digital video recorder, but found myself wanting a small combination camera that I could carry in my purse. I did a ton of research to find a highly rated mini-camera at a reasonable price point – and chose the Sony 7.2mp Cyber-shot. The first time I used it was to film my Granddaughter’s choral concert; to say I was disappointed is an understatement. The video quality was poor and the audio was terrible; it kept switching from a stereo sound to a mono sound during playback I suspect the cause may have been the operator – the camera is so tiny that I may have been putting my fingers over the microphone section – but it was almost impossible to hold any other way. The still images are decent, not great. When I know that I am going to be taking pictures or video, I take my other cameras along with me. I only use this one to throw in my purse when going somewhere that I might want to film.

Image Quality
ok, not great

Performance
even though the camera is not that small, I keep hitting buttons I don't mean to hit

Durability
I've only had this a few months, but no issues so far

Battery Life
still on my first set of batteries, but have only used this to film 1 video and take about 100 pictures

A Best Buy!

Comments about Sony - Cybershot S650 Digital Camera:

This camera is a wonderful value for the money. It has all the features of a more expensive camera, but is easy to operate for even the most amateur user. The picture quality is second to none. I would highly recommend it as a first time camera for teenagers and beginning photographers.

Great value for a high megapixel point and shoot digital camera.

By

from Joliet, IL

Comments about Sony - Cybershot S650 Digital Camera:

We started with a 35 mm camera when we were first married and took a ton of pictures.  It was hard to transition to a digital for us in the first place.  We didn't want to give up the luxury of being able to zoom as much as we could with the 35 mm.  We first chose a Sony that had a really big zoom and 5 megapixels.  The only problem was that it didn't have auto flash and a lot of times the lighting didn't turn out right and it was also bulky to carry which is difficult when you have kids.  This camera is great because I can literally put it in the pocket of my jeans and take it with me when we go anywhere.  Most times, it stays in my purse so we always have it.  It has 7.2 megapixels, so the quality is really good.  The only thing I miss on it is being able to zoom.  But, other than that, it has been a great alternative.  Oh yeah, when we went to purchase it, we were looking for a camera that would be easier to carry and not have to take a big camera.  We were pleasantly surprised that this one had just come out and you could get the high mp with it and not have to pay such a high price for it.  A very pleasant surprise.

don't buy it

Comments about Sony - Cybershot S650 Digital Camera:

i purchased this camera for my vaction to south america. the main purpose was for taking lots of pictures since i was going to go see my family member in which i had not seen in nine years. this camera ate up so much battery that it was just ridicoulus. once in Colombia i had to buy and carry along a 12 pack of batteries with me because it seemed that every time i used the camera the next use was a requirement to change the batteries. another thing i did not like was that i had to take at least four picture of the same thing before i got a good one. every picture would come out blurry and if the battery was low in we be even worse. almost every picture would come out blurry or it would take forever for the camera to flash and snap the picture which would than be worthless because it would still come out nasty. don't review the pictures in your camera either because that is another battery waster. another thing is that the tab where the batteries goes has a really small piece of plastic to hold it closed and after many battery changes it broke and the battery tab now needs to be fastened with tape.

great shots!

By

from Houston, TX

Comments about Sony - Cybershot S650 Digital Camera:

This camera produces some excellent quality photographs.  It's got quite a few settings but the auto mode serves very well and can appropriately assess the environment.  I have been able to print out several of the shots taken with this camera in a larger format with no problem.  The MegaPixel count is sufficient for 8x10 prints.

The build on this camera is not as sturdy as I would like.  A device this small is bound to be dropped and mine was.  The shutter button popped off falling from about table height.  After putting it back together, it was very difficult to take pictures because you had to push the button very hard.  However, functionality worked about the same.

Low light sensitivity could use some work but the built in flash serves its purpose.  The battery life is very poor and seems to get worse as time progresses.  I'm lucky if I get 30-40 shots before it drains the 2 AA batteries.

I would still recommend this camera since it has such great quality shots and is so portable,

Easy to use camera!

By

from Muscatine, IA

Comments about Sony - Cybershot S650 Digital Camera:

I am so impressed with this camera, I've bought three of them. I prefer to use the original one I bought in 2007. I think that this digital camera is really easy to use. The flash or shutter time is really perfect for getting shots of kids in action. We have used our camera for fireworks, the zoo, every day at home, and have not had many issues with it. One drawback would be is that I need to buy more expensive batteries for it. But I have had a lot of luck buying digital camera batteries (mainly Energizer) and these batteries have lasted me for up to six months at a time in this camera before! For any busy mom who loves to get shots of their kids, this camera is a really great pick. I also think it's a really good price too. My original camera is three years old now and I prefer it over my newer one. The only reason I had to buy a third one is that my three year old put the second one in a sink of water. I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone. The settings are also very easy to figure out.

Great starter digital camera

By

from Griffin, GA

Comments about Sony - Cybershot S650 Digital Camera:

The Sony Cyber Shot was my first, and only digital camera. I love it, but there are some cons to it. But, first the pros: It's super lightweight, to start off with. You can carry it in your handbag, or pocket, and it will not weight you down. The screen is large...you can see every detail before you snap a picture. Oh, and the pictures are also usually clear. (I'll get to that later) The setting on the Sony Cyber Shot are great, as well. With just a flick of the wheel, you can change shot quality. There are also sepia and black and white color options under the menu section, and that is nice as well.

For the cons: battery life! Oh man, the batteries you will use with this camera! If I had to do it over again, I would have just bought rechargable batteries from the start. At times, the pictures are grainy, even in the best settings, and the best sunlight. The menu is a little tricky to operate as well.

Howver, for a beginner, I would recommend this camera.

Comments about Sony - Cybershot S650 Digital Camera:

i have had my sony cybershot s650 camera for over 3 years, and it's a pretty decent camera for the price.

        7.2 megapixels

        optical zoom 3x

        ISO 1000/ high sensitivity

I had this camera bought for me when i was a junior in high school because i was on the yearbook staff. i used the camera all year long not only for the yearbook, but for my personal digital camera also.

senior year i used the same camera, definitely took a lot more pictures since it was senior year. i used it for homecoming, prom, basketball games, regular school days, after school, yearbook, etc.

although it is not shock proof, water proof, etc- it definitely holds up against wear and tear.

between a bunch of high schoolers using it, it has been dropped, tossed around, lost, etc.

the main issue i have with it, like i have with almost anything electronic (including my cell phone) the older the camera becomes the shorter the battery life is. this camera takes 2 AA batteries.
