The Sonicare Elite Professional e9800 was our second Sonicare. The first one lasted for many years. My husband and I have aging teeth and gums. We wanted to buy the top of the line. The Elite will run you about $120 which is for one person.
Pros
The manufacturer will recycle the sonic toothbrush for you (USA customers only). If you call their number they will give you a postage-paid mailer. They assure you that the toothbrush will last for many years, (I do think six years is a good track record.) but when it no longer functions, the batteries used to power Sonicare should be recycled and disposed of properly.
It has a soft grip handle.
It comes with a travel case.
Cons
Using this hasn’t improved my gums but since they haven’t gotten worse I continue to use it.
It only comes with one set of brushes. At first when we looked online, where we bought it, I thought I was supposed to take one and my husband was supposed to take the other. Not so. In fact this is made for one person. We had to buy two packages of replacement heads. One pack has a contour set and one has a standard set. Essentially we now have an extra set. So we really got into an expensive purchase
It comes with
a charger base. This charger base is nice and small at 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches approximately. It has a three-spoke piece on the bottom of the base which I wrap the extra cord around. This is really nice. I don’t have extra cord on top of my toilet.
a soft grip handle which sits in the charger base. The soft grip makes the charger easier to hold and non-slippery.
two brush heads. One is compact (3/4 inch) and the other is standard (1 inch).
color-coded rings at the base so I can tell my brushes from my husband’s.
a plastic travel cap for each brush head.
a brush head holder that will hold two brush heads. We kept the holder from our old Sonicare so now my brushes are in one and my husband’s are in the other.
a DVD which we watched but found the booklet to be more helpful.
The Sonicare technology works on sonic waves, which generate high frequency brush strokes (31,000 per minute).
There is a limited two-year warranty. Sonicare guarantees noticeable results and better checkups. You will get a full refund after 28 days if you are not totally satisfied.
Using my Sonicare:
You will find that the e7000 and e9000 are the same or so similar it is hard to detect any differences.
The Smartimer: This is a feature which automatically sets the brushing time to two minutes. After two minutes it shuts off. I can pause or stop during this time by pressing the power button. When I press it again it will start at the time I left off.
The Quadpacer: This makes sure that I brush each of the four quadrants of my mouth for 30 seconds. I hear a short beep and a tiny pause at 30, 60 and 90-second intervals. These two features are really important to me because I tend to be a lazy brusher. This ensures that I’m not.
The Easy-start: This feature gently increases the power of the brush over 14 uses. I really like this feature. My gums are sensitive so this helps them not go into shock when they first feel the brush. If you never want it to go to the maximum strength this feature can be deactivated.
Charging: It will take 24 hours for your Sonicare to be fully charged. The reason it is easy to travel with is that a fully charged unit will give me about 2 weeks of use which would be 2 minutes, twice a day. Since two people are using this unit, we can take it for one week. There is a green light on the charger that indicates that it is charging. We leave it plugged in all the time.
Why two brush heads?
The standard brush is for your every day type cleaning. It massages and stimulates your gums. The compact brush is for cleaning in hard to reach places, sensitive areas. This is great for me because I have a small mouth and it is hard to get way back with a standard-sized toothbrush.
The brush heads are slightly angled on what is called the removable nut. This makes getting it into my mouth easier.
Cleaning the Sonicare:
The brush head holder can be washed in the dishwasher on the top rack.
I clean the brush heads each time I use them, dry them and put the case back on. The bottom of the brush head, the nut, easily comes off by pushing down on it. Once a week I clean that area. If I don’t it becomes moldy.
