Note: The DVD format we watched this movie in was the wide screen edition.

Harry (Jack Nicholson) has always liked younger women, he has never really dated a woman his own age, except maybe when he was very young himself.  In the beginning of the movie we see Harry with his latest girlfriend, a girl named Marin (Amanda Peet), they are headed out to her Mom's beach house for the weekend.  Her mom is not supposed to be at the house on this particular weekend so they figure they can have some privacy.  Just as things are about to get romantic Marin's Mother Erica (Keeton)  and her Mother's sister Zoe come home to the beach house.

They all just decide that everyone will stay and while he is there Harry ends up having a heart attack..  They rush him to the emergency room, where he is taken care of a young doctor played by Keanu Reeves.  The young Dr. is familiar with Erica's work (she is a published author) and has a bit of a crush on her. He tells Erica and Marin that Jack can not travel for at least a few day.  Marin has to go back to work and Erica agrees to take care of him.

At first they feel there will not be any problem.  Erica has closed her self off to any romantic type of feelings and to Harry she is to old (his own age) to even be considered.  But since they are in the house alone together, they begin to talk and spend time with each other and soon they find they actually really enjoy each others company, and some romance insues.  But eventually Harry goes back to being Harry, and a broken hearted Erica might find herself in the arms of the young doctor.

Is it possible for an old hound dog to truly find love with a woman his own age.  Or do old habits die hard, and will a woman of a certain age find love with a man her own age, or with a handsome man much younger than herself.  If you want to know the answer to these questions you will have to see: Somethings Gotta Give.

This is a pretty cute movie. The way in which the romance develops between the two main characters unfolds itself nicely, and is very normal and very natural.  The characters are really cute together, and both Keeton and Nicholson are pros at what they do, so when they feel pain or hurt you really can feel it along with them.  There was one scene however that got on my nerves, there was like an entire montage of Keeton Crying, in a very loud, very fake sounding manner.  It is kind of like a heartbreaking howl, but I have done the whole heartbroken howl thing, and usually after a couple of howls you go back to normal crying you don't sit there, and howl, and howl, and howl.  I am sorry but this part really got on my nerves and I actually fast forwarded past it after watching it for nearly 2 minutes.

Other than that one scene I really enjoyed this movie.

Most of this movie is suitable for children, but there are implied sexual situations and brief nudity, so keep that in mind.  It is not really the kind of movie that would appeal to children anyways.

Ha! The howling scene really *did* annoy. But the restof the movie was cute and great escapist fare. The actors all played off one another really well. Nice review.
