I am SO not a wine snob.
I mean, when I first saw all of those people swirling and chewing and spitting with such intense concentration, I thought they had a screw loose.
You know those descriptions? ... The ones that say *cherry pie, blueberry, or chocolate tones*? After sampling many wines over the years, I thought those people were certifiable. I mean, how the heck could a bunch of molded grapes turn into such delightful flavors as THAT?
My husband, well, he naturally sniffs and swirls everything- even his water. I mean, this guy is a total scientist when it comes to analyzing anything he consumes or partakes in. He is a hands on learner.
The first time he urged me to try some wine and I watched him go through his exploration of the stuff in the glass, I thought "What have I gotten myself into?"
Over time, however, I learned that is just his way of doing everything- not limited to wine.
I had been trying wines for years, and learned that I could not have anything with heavy pesticides in them. I just got too sick, and it was not worth it to me.
Once while in Virginia we had the pleasure of visiting a TOTAL WINE store and learned of an amazing vineyard who produces the highest quality wines that we have EVER had.
WHAT IS SOBON ESTATES REZERVE ROSE WINE LIKE?
I will do other reviews of wines from this amazing winery, but this review is about a precious little gem we have discovered called REZERVE ROSE WINE. We have had two vintages of this Rose, and each have been delightful. This wine is done in the tradition of the Southern French style of Roses. Another great thing is that SOBON ESTATES uses organic grapes and their wines are all very clean- which leave me with no headaches or bad reactions.
When young SOBON ESTATES ROSE is a beautiful blush color. As it ages a bit it gets amber in color. The swirling legs in the glass- well, I totally understand why people do that now. The wine flows down the glass in a most beautiful way and lasts a long time too.
The flavor is wonderful- at first the flavor is fruity with a twist of pie cherries to it. There is no acidic jolting at all, yet the wine is very dry. There is a lot of lovely fruitiness to it, and the kick is pretty strong- this is not a weak wine.
What is nice about the SOBON ESTATES ROSE WINE is that a bottle goes a long way. We even brought our wine to dinner when there was a LONG waiting time and we had to keep ourselves occupied while waiting for a table.
Another interesting thing I found about SOBON ESTATES REZERVE ROSE WINE is that if I happen to have some of it at a time when I prefer cold beverages, I have even put ice in this wine and it held up beautifully. I realize that is heresy to the most dedicated of wine experts, but for me, I love it that way in warmer weather, or when I want a more refreshing drink.
Very few wines can hold up under ice at all, but this is delightful.
Here are some specifics about the 2008 vintage
Residual Sugar: 0.17%
Total Acid: 6.0 gm/l
Alcohol: 13.3%
We paid $8.49 for a 750ml bottle.
SOBON ESTATES has some of the best wines we have EVER had. Another interesting thing we have found is that they are equally skilled at white or red wines- a fact that is hard to come by in this industry. Usually most wineries are better at one or the other, but rarely do they excel at both to this level.
