On Super-bowl Sunday, I watched the commercial for SoBe - Life Water.  You know the one with all of the lizards.  Or were they geckos?  Whatever they were, I remember commenting on how it made me think of Geico, the insurance company rather than vitamin water.  I was at Wal-Mart the other day when I came across none other than SoBe - Life Water.  They were a dollar for a 20 FL OZ. bottle so I decided to try it.  I have to admit that if it weren't for that crazy commercial, I probably would have walked on by.  I'm kind of thinking I should have.

The Facts

The manufacturer states that SoBe Lifewater is a naturally flavored beverage that is a rich source of antioxidant vitamins C & E. Antioxidants can help the body protect itself against free radicals, which are molecules that can damage cells.  SoBe Lifewater is designed to help you live a healthier life.

My Experience

I purchased the Blackberry Grape, which has an herbal content of L-theanine and yerba mate, and the Orange Tangerine that has acerola extract and rosehip.  I have no idea what any of those are but supposedly, they are good for you.  That is great and all but this flavored water tastes like a bland glass of Kool-Aid or flat soda.  I wasn't very impressed.  Once the flavored water got a little warm, I just couldn't drink it.  I do like that SoBe doesn't have any artificial sweeteners so the taste isn't overly sweet and that there is no aftertaste.  Each 20 oz. bottle contains 100 calories, no fat, 95mg of Sodium, 25g of Carbs and 24g of sugars.  I guess for 20oz those numbers aren't so bad.  With each bottle, you are getting 250% of Vitamin C. 50% of Vitamin E, 25% of Niacin, 25% of Vitamin B6, 25% of Vitamin B12 and 25% of Pantothenic Acid.

My Final Viewpoint

Sobe - Life Water isn't the greatest flavored water that I have ever tasted but it isn't the worst either.  It's just kind of an average drink that I probably wouldn't make a point of purchasing again.  I say save the calories and just drink plain water and take a vitamin.  I am giving this product a 3 star rating

I personally like the Life water but only the Pomegrante Cherry. I first tried the strawberry kiwi and I did not like it. A friend told me to try the Cherry Pomegranate and I loved it. I at the time was also fighting an addiction to drinking way to much pepsi all day long so the bland kool aid taste was hard but it's better now that I am used to drinking it. I don't think it's that bad of a drink if you are kicking the pop habit!

Nicely done! You proved once again that it pays to make your own Kool-Aid and take vitamins.

In response to Kristy's comment from Feb 14, 2008 at 5:02PM:

Hmmm, practically frozen? I will have to try it that way. That does sound good.

Thanks for the heads up. I will stick with my distilled water and a lemon wedge :)

I like weak Kool Aid! But I generally don't like this water. I get a belly ache when I drink it. No idea why. And I hated the commercial. I thought it was for Geico Insurance.

You can also save disposing of the bottle.

Is that anything like "save a horse-ride a cowboy"? Anyway....you make a good point. I've tried that water several times, and while its good for you, the taste is just as you describe it, bland kool-aid. So, when tempted to by a diet coke, I will often by this, but I wouldn't stock the fridge with it.

I think you make a good point. Why not drink plain water and take a vitamin pill? :>
