Snow Buddies —

I have been in Indiana visiting my 2 daughters and my oldest is as bad as I am when it comes to buying movies for the kids. One of the ones I fell in love with is Snow Buddies and it had me laughing and tugged at my heart strings the entire time.

Snow Buddies

A comedic adventure envolving 5 Golden Retriever Puppies that will put a smile on anyones face. This story follows the offspring of Buddy and Molly from the Air Bud Disney movies and is the perfect movie to watch by yourself or with your children or grandchildren. We start off in a little town of Fernfield, Washington where each of the pups Rosebud, B Dawg, Mudbud, Budderball and Buddha lives with their young owners.

As with all pups they play and get into mischief at every turn or blink of the eye. Of course the pups parents watch over them and try to keep them safe. One day the pups find themselves locked in an ice cream truck because they got curious. Not just any ice cream truck but one that had a shipment destined for Alaska! Not only are the locked inside the truck but in a container equipped with a parachute that gets shoved out of the plane in a remote part of Ferntiuktuk, Alaska.

After landing in this cold and snowy world they begin a new and crazy adventure together. They are given shelter by a cute blue eyed Alaskan Sled Puppy Shasta whose owner Adam Bilson(Dominic Scott Kay) longs to race in the annual Dog Sled Race like his father Joe Bilson(Mike Dupod). Because of a horrific accident during a race his Dad was in that took the lives of Shasta's parents Adam is not allowed to have anything to do with dog sled racing.

However like most young boys he is determined to not only race but prove he can to his Dad. All of this happening just before Christmas with Adam wanting nothing more than 5 more puppies to make a team to compete in the annual race. Yes you guessed it 5 golden retriever puppies are about to team up with Shasta and enter the race.

I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone by going any further but I will add that the puppies meet up with a Wise Old Legend by the name of Talon (whose voice is done by Kris Kristopfferson) who teaches the 6 puppies the ways of the sled dog. They are also helped along by the towns Deputy Dog...lol whose voice is none other than Jim Belushi.

Bottom Line

A light hearted movie that will make you smile and fall in love with the 6 puppies and their adventure in the snow of Alaska. It runs 87 minutes and some movie critics say it is a "Strictly Kids Movie" Movie critics just don't know what they are talking about because this old guy sure loved it!!!! I just sat here and watched it with a room full of my grandbabies and another that my daughter is babysitting. They loved it as much as any movie they have seen according to my daughter who loved it as well.

Some controversy follows this movie because some of the puppies involved in making it caught the Parvo Virus and 5 either were euthanized or died because of it. Because of that I can't give it 5 stars, Disney should have taken better precautions in the making of the movie.

Thanks for the great review. My grandson, age 4, and I have been waiting to buy this one because he loves all the Air Bud movies. We are also looking forward to Space Puppies.
I didn't know about the Parvo Virus but your right they should have taken better care of the puppies.

I can understand your feelings but it is cute movie and I believe what happened was an accident of oversight and not malicious.

ACK...I don't like that the dogs got sick. I couldn't watch it knowing that. My last dog got Parvo and he suffered terribly but survived after a LOT of care. I just can't believe Disney would be so careless. There are vaccines for that! (My dog got it before there were even vaccines. This was many, many years ago.)

It's so sad to see a beautiful dog get something like that -- they get so sick and then they are just "skin and bones"!

Thanks again or telling us about the movie. Maybe I'l have some "Simply Lemonade" to wet my whistle while I'm watching. You know, in fact I'm just about to return two Netflix dvd's today, I might go in and see if they rent that one about the dogs. Have a great weekend, Ron!

Yeah I really enjoy watching movies like this with my grandkids, unfortunately I can only do that once a year since we live so far apart.

It was tragic hearing about the pups, you would think with our advances in science that we could find a way to prevent such things! Enjoy Anna....and do like I did...have a bowl of popcorn and some lemonade to enjoy with the movie...;)

I am the same as Loveis joy. . . I would cry over every movie with animals in it. Now, I get to relive those days monitoring my daughters movie watching.

Oh yeah, you can't go wrong with Golden Retriever puppies. This sounds like a great movie. It's too bad that some of the puppies died but we have had dogs in this neighborhood die of Parvo. Once one gets it, it is hard to prevent it spreading. I might look for this movie for myself. Catch ya later!

My kids will love this! Thanks for the info!

It's funny, when I was a kid I never liked movies about animals. Now that I'm much older, I'm often touched by these kind of movies. Have no idea why...nice review. :)

Oh... sad about the puppies who caught the parvo virus. Thanks for the well written review. Sounds like my kind of movie and I'll have to check it out.
