When somebody sends me one of those forwarded urgent e-mails about some new scam or virus (or whatever) the first thing I do is search for a key phrase on Snopes.com.  Most often the next thing I do is send a reply to the message sender with the Snopes.com link, suggesting that maybe they should check out these things before passing them on to everybody in their address book.  Snopes.com is also a fun place to browse, look up things you remember hearing on the playground when you were a kid, or read rumors, true or false, about your favorite pop culture icons.  (Hey, did you know Mr. Ed was really a zebra?)
