With my new camera in hand, I've had great pictures and the urge to do something different.  So far my "different" has been the photo processing and production services of Snapfish.com
In November '08, I sent a picture of my new Christmas wreath with an order for 50 4"x6" prints.  I planned to use them as inexpensive holiday cards, and, with a special, the whole order cost less than six dollars.  Snapfish printed them beautifully, but I was dismayed to see the company's logo stamp on the back of each photo.  Next time I'll bite the bullet and order their "real", logo-less postcards.
Otherwise pleased with my first purchase, I now ordered a calendar collage (also on special) using contemporary pictures related to my friendship with pal Lynne and her pets.  I chose a black background from a palette of many colors, decided not to put a title on the calendar, then proceeded to use the maximum of 30 photos on a medium-sized poster.  I was a little confused about the uploading of photos, but progressed without major frustration on an upward learning curve.
My calendar arrived quickly, protected by a stout mailing tube.  I'm not easily impressed but...  The photos were as clear as when I sent them, and the photo paper was good heavy stock.  People love pictures of themselves (me, too) and Lynne accepted her gift with a "Wow!".
This success set me off on the a laborious scanning of ancient family photographs for a collage for cousin AnnaBanana(If you don't already know her, check out her well-written site.)
Once again I intended to use the maximum 30 photos.  The difficulty here was that the selection of real-photo size apparently had nothing to do with the size of pictures on the final Snapfish layout.  In order to make the most important picture the largest, I mickey-moused the collage through different paper sizes.  I also changed the configuration by removing one or more pictures as necessary.
The random order of photos baffled me a bit, but I certainly wouldn't want to have to lay out all 30 on the page from scratch.  Talk about laborious!  This said, I adapted to the procedure and moved on for the assembly of two small notebooks.
For these I chose from a variety of patterned and plain background colors; selected a font and wrote identifying captions; then determined both the number of pictures and size of notebook from an array of different possibilities.  Although the notebooks were good items, I would have been happier with larger photo reproduction on the page.  Once again, the Snapfish logo on the back of the prints was off-putting.
Unfortunately, I'm the only person who didn't get a collage.  I've recently scanned and filed photos of my piano students through the ages.  All I need now is the next special on regular collages (no calendar).  Think I may try the 16"x20" to make a big splash in my front hall.

Thanks for your nice words. Think I'm going to order two large photo posters and mount them on my two, dullest kitchen cabinet doors. The more you see on Snapfish, the more ideas you can come up with. Guess that keeps them in business, right?

Nice review! I just started using Snapfish and haven't palced on order yet, but I love all the gift ideas they have! Glad yours turned out well...I'll probably start my Chrismas projects now and order some stuff from them.

I have students' photos going back generations of students. Snapfish is my best hope for sharing them. It doesn't make sense to me that photos just lie in a box. Every couple of years, I go through and weed more out. It's amazing what we keep. One year I made collage placemats (had them laminated at Staples). Very labor intensive. I don't intend to keep that up! When I finally make decisions on my student collage and get it back, I'll put it up in my profile gallery.

This is one site that I am familiar with even though I haven't used it. I have a lot of friends who have photo albums thru this site and they are pretty cool!!

It's my impression that Snapfish pictures can be picked up at Walgreen's. I'd have to doublecheck, but I think we may be dealing with the same photo producer. Thanks for your comment, Lisa.

I haven't used snapfish for anything other than regular prints. usually i get my collages from walgreens because they are so inexpensive. will take a look at these.

I love the review and also the collage and little scrapbooks. As you had suggested, I cut up one of them and added some of the pictures to Aunt Lorna's scrapbook. Your picture of the Cresco train depot was much better than the one I had. I told April about how the picture of the Fiske family and the buggy was an original print which was more than 80 years old and how clear it is!
