Snapfish  —

I have been using snapfish's service for about two and a half years.  I wasn't a frequent user, but anytime I needed a print, snapfish was my go-to service, mainly for their prices.  I had never had any issues with them and thought I was getting a pretty good deal.

Recently, they have run a few promotions offering 50 prints for 50 cents.  A deal that is difficult to pass up.  The first time they ran this offer, I realized this was the chance to finally get some wedding pictures printed for my sister's wedding scrapbook - now that it was coming up on her five year anniversary.  When I received my prints, I noticed a couple of them had strange bluish spots on them - one made my brother-in-law look like he had a black eye, another made my sister look like she'd been making out with a smurf prior to the shot of my dad walking her down the aisle - her lips were the only blue thing in the picture!  This only made me laugh at the irony of the mistake.

I notified snapfish, returned my product and waited for them to credit me for my replacements.  After hearing nothing for two weeks, I finally contacted them again and they promptly gave me my credits - I don't know if they ever even received or acknowledged the returned product.  After ordering replacements, I had to wait another two weeks to receive them.  My sister's scrapbook sat waiting, in a closet for a month waiting for one page to be finished, needing just the one picture of her walking down the aisle.  So, I opened the envelope, eager to get that page done and, much to my dismay, noted that the exact same error had been made again!  My sister's lips were still blue.

To shorten this long narrative, one customer service rep told me I needed to uncheck a box for red-eye correction -  a box I tried in vain to find when attempting to order my second set of replacements.  Another rep told me, after I found no red-eye box, that I needed to preview my pictures before sending in the order - something I had done - and then re-order them and hope they didn't make the same error again!  Wait another month?!  I didn't think so.  So I let that one go.

Then, last month they had the deal again and, although I had been frustrated with the previous experience, I didn't let that stop me from giving them another chance.  This time I had designed some 4x6 prints of my brand new daughter to serve as birth announcements.  I ordered 80.  When I received them, twenty-seven of those prints had errors in the printing process with red ink bleeding on either the corner or, on some, up to half of the print!  27 out of 80!  That was one-third of my order!  I could not believe it.  From my previous experience, I knew that the return process could leave me waiting for replacements for a month, and by then my baby wouldn't be so brand-new any more and would hardly need announcing.  Therefore, I contacted them to see if there was anything I could do to speed up the process (ie, receive my credits right away rather than waiting to return them).  They gave me my credits the very next day (with a reminder to check the preview before I place the order, because obviously, in ordering 80 of the exact same picture, it must be my fault that 27 of them were wrong) and I placed the order - crossing my fingers that these would turn out alright.

I have been crossing my fingers for two weeks now.

In that same amount of time, I placed an order with shutterfly for 50 prints of other pictures, along with a photo puzzle.  I got the pictures in four days, the puzzle arrived four days later.  Everything in that order was perfect.

It's true that snapfish has, by far, some of the cheapest prints on the internet, but if you need quality prints in a hurry - they are not who you want to deal with.  And if you expect a flawless order the first time - you might not want to try them (or if you ever want to see all of the pictures you ordered without errors).

I think their eagerness to be the least expensive has left them abandoning their loyalty to quality.  That's too bad.

I had the EXACT same issue with the blue marks. When I re-ordered, the prints came with the blue marks AGAIN. Third time came out okay.

I'm having the exact same issue. I've had orange basketballs come out black, random people's faces gray, lips blue, red noses turn grey. I disabled the auto red-eye correction a month ago, and continue to have the same problems. I've also checked the "print preview" view and the problems never show up on the print preview.

I do an average of $150/month worth of developing, and I'm looking for a different developer. I've lost all confidence in Snapfish.

I totaly agree with you when snapfish price went down their quality went with it. I have had the same problems with the blue lips, blue shadows intead of just a regular shadow color and also blue hair, and now that you mentioned the black eye thing I looked at my pictures again and I see some black eyes. I have used them for years with no problems but all of a sudden they are having the problems with the colors, and it's pretty much every order I haven't had an order from them since Oct. 2008 that didn't have some sort of mistake on several of the pictures. They did credit me for the pictures that were messed up, but I think I'll just take my business elsewhere, I'd rather pay a little more and get my prints back correct the first time.

In response to antcris's comment from Jan 14, 2009 at 8:14PM:

I highly recommend artscow.com - I discovered them when I defected from Snapfish. When you sign up, you receive 50 free 4x6's and 50 free 5x7's PER MONTH for the first year. PLUS a ton of other free photo products (including photobooks). Their prints are great quality - the books tend to have a reddish tint in the printing, but not so much so that I'm willing to give up paying only $8/book for shipping and nothing else.

I say give them a shot, if you're looking for a good deal!

I am having the same thing happen to me i got my credit on my blue lips, black eye and blue (where it should be red) pokla dotted bathing suit pictures. I reordered them and they came back the same way. They told me to print preveiw which I do. My thing is it shouldn't change colors, so why should I print preveiw anyway. I have used them since 2004 and now I am looking for a new place.

I do fully intend to send my order to the store next time so, if there's a problem, the problem can be fixed right away, rather than the weeks-long ordeal. I'm disappointed, however, that their good prices don't transfer to store orders. Print-to-store orders are regularly 12 cents a print, rather than 9, and their free prints or 50 for 50 cent deals cannot be sent to store. So if I want a good price I have to cross my fingers, close my eyes and wish that everything would be done right and I would get my prints (all printed correctly) in my hands sooner than a month later.

bummer... I know how much hassle it is to get your pictures right the first time sometimes. LIke Suzi said maybe sending them to the store would be better. They now have a pretty good list of stores they will send to. Then it is printing right there on their equipment.

That is so weird, I have always had perfect prints from them. Thanks for the review.

Sorry for your bad exeriences :( I've always gotten perfect prints from them, and I've also never heard of the Red eye box the girl told you about! I suggest you go to your local walgreens or CVS for instant prints. It costs more, but you save on shipping :)
