Recently, they have run a few promotions offering 50 prints for 50 cents. A deal that is difficult to pass up. The first time they ran this offer, I realized this was the chance to finally get some wedding pictures printed for my sister's wedding scrapbook - now that it was coming up on her five year anniversary. When I received my prints, I noticed a couple of them had strange bluish spots on them - one made my brother-in-law look like he had a black eye, another made my sister look like she'd been making out with a smurf prior to the shot of my dad walking her down the aisle - her lips were the only blue thing in the picture! This only made me laugh at the irony of the mistake.
I notified snapfish, returned my product and waited for them to credit me for my replacements. After hearing nothing for two weeks, I finally contacted them again and they promptly gave me my credits - I don't know if they ever even received or acknowledged the returned product. After ordering replacements, I had to wait another two weeks to receive them. My sister's scrapbook sat waiting, in a closet for a month waiting for one page to be finished, needing just the one picture of her walking down the aisle. So, I opened the envelope, eager to get that page done and, much to my dismay, noted that the exact same error had been made again! My sister's lips were still blue.
To shorten this long narrative, one customer service rep told me I needed to uncheck a box for red-eye correction - a box I tried in vain to find when attempting to order my second set of replacements. Another rep told me, after I found no red-eye box, that I needed to preview my pictures before sending in the order - something I had done - and then re-order them and hope they didn't make the same error again! Wait another month?! I didn't think so. So I let that one go.
Then, last month they had the deal again and, although I had been frustrated with the previous experience, I didn't let that stop me from giving them another chance. This time I had designed some 4x6 prints of my brand new daughter to serve as birth announcements. I ordered 80. When I received them, twenty-seven of those prints had errors in the printing process with red ink bleeding on either the corner or, on some, up to half of the print! 27 out of 80! That was one-third of my order! I could not believe it. From my previous experience, I knew that the return process could leave me waiting for replacements for a month, and by then my baby wouldn't be so brand-new any more and would hardly need announcing. Therefore, I contacted them to see if there was anything I could do to speed up the process (ie, receive my credits right away rather than waiting to return them). They gave me my credits the very next day (with a reminder to check the preview before I place the order, because obviously, in ordering 80 of the exact same picture, it must be my fault that 27 of them were wrong) and I placed the order - crossing my fingers that these would turn out alright.
I have been crossing my fingers for two weeks now.
In that same amount of time, I placed an order with shutterfly for 50 prints of other pictures, along with a photo puzzle. I got the pictures in four days, the puzzle arrived four days later. Everything in that order was perfect.
It's true that snapfish has, by far, some of the cheapest prints on the internet, but if you need quality prints in a hurry - they are not who you want to deal with. And if you expect a flawless order the first time - you might not want to try them (or if you ever want to see all of the pictures you ordered without errors).
I think their eagerness to be the least expensive has left them abandoning their loyalty to quality. That's too bad.
