I Feel LIke I Got Hosed at Lowe's With 12 Hour Green Snap Light

2 star rating

making magic wands, a savvy saver, all about practical, family oriented
Pros

easy to use, convenient, non-toxic, non-flammable, lasted for about 12 hours, kids enjoyed them

Cons
too expensive for me, only one choice of color, only one choice of shape, other brands have lanyard (string), not environmentally friendly

I purchased this Snap Light 12 Hour Green Glow Stick at Lowe's just before Halloween for $2. It is a green colored glow stick that is packaged separately. Take it out of the package and snap it like you would try to break a stick. This allows the chemicals to mix and produce a green glow. We thought glowing magic wands would work really well with our Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather costumes. In case you haven't heard, they are the three fairies in Sleeping Beauty.

What I like about Snap Light Glow Stick:

  • It's convenient.
  • It produces a pretty cool green glow.
  • It does last for a pretty long while.
  • It was easy to attach to the wands with a rubber band.
  • The package says it is safe, non-toxic & non-flammable, but we didn't decide to drink it or place it over a flame to test those claims.
  • My kids had a blast with them!

What I don't like about Snap Light Glow Stick:

  • I feel like I got hosed at Lowe's. This thing cost $2. It only lasts for 12 hours. Wal-Mart had another brand in packs of 10 for $4, which I got half price after Halloween...Live and learn.
  • I think it would have been even cuter if they offered different shapes, like stars or hearts.
  • I only saw a choice of green--other color choices would have been nice.
  • It didn't come with a lanyard (string)
  • It only lasts for 12 hours--it turned yellow by the next morning (see picture)
  • It's not very environmentally friendly

My Viewpoint:

If you are going to make magic wands, it's best to plan a year ahead of time and comparison shop. This Snap Light 12 Hour Green Glow Stick did work as it claimed, but the price was too high for me.

That's a great price. I actually like to play with those sticks. I'm suck a dork. I used to have the glow necklaces and bracelets. I mean like a few years ago, not when I was a kid. Haha. I don't know if the freezer thing really helps but I was told to do that if I wanted to extend the life of the stick and I did when my kids were younger. But for the price you paid, your kids can have a ball and toss them away when they fizzle out.

I didn't even think about putting mine in the freezer. I had heard of that years ago but didn't think about it. I got a pack of 10 of multi-colored ones at Wal-Mart after Halloween for $2 (always looking for a bargain over here...). Actually I stocked up and got several packs. Guess I'll be writing a review of those once we use them!

My kids liked these and they lasted longer if we put them in the freezer. Don't ask me why! I still think they're a rip though and should only cost a buck.
