As I mentioned in my Breyers Light Immunity Boost Nonfat Yogurt review, I have low blood sugar and in order to keep it under control, it is imperative that I eat six or seven small healthy meals/snacks a day.  My doctor specifically mentioned that I should purchase Natural Peanut Butter because it is a very good source of protein.  I took his advice and purchased a 16 oz. jar of creamy Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter for only $2.50.

What's in this stuff...?

I couldn't wait for this part.  Are you ready to see the ingredients?  Here we go:

Ingredients:  PEANUTS; SALT

Yup, that's it!  Can't get much simpler than that.  As far as nutrition goes, there is 16g of fat** and 210 calories in 2 Tbsp.  It also has 120 mg of sodium and 6g of carbs.  There is 8g of protein, 2g of fiber, 1g of sugars and 2% of iron.

**Over 80% of the fat in peanut butter is the unsaturated kind, which is heart healthy.

What do I think about it...?

When I first opened the jar, I have to admit that I was a bit horrified.  The top layer of the peanut butter was all oil.  The jar states that oil separation is natural and to just stir and refrigerate.  Prior to refrigerating, when I stirred the peanut butter, the consistency was still very thin and at that point, I needed a spoon to "pour" it on my wheat toast.  The devil on my shoulder was telling me to toss it in the garbage.  Of course, the angel said to give it another try for my health's sake.  Good prevailed over evil and I did give it another shot.  I decided to wait and see what it was like after I refrigerated it for awhile.  I'm happy to say that the peanut butter firmed right up and was now spreadable with a knife.  When spreading it, I noticed tiny pieces of peanuts.  Upon first taste, my first thought was that it was bland.  After about the third or fourth try, I started to get used to it and now it actually tastes pretty good.  I now use it regularly and it is a great stabilizer for my blood sugar.

My Final Viewpoint...

Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter is an important part of my daily intake of protein.  It is all natural and although the fat content seems high, it is mostly all "good" fat that my body needs.  My doctor recommended natural peanut butter to me and I recommend this brand to you.  I am giving this product 4 stars out of 5.

I have always been a faithful user of Jif, but your review makes me want to try the Smuckers. It sounds much healthier than the Jif, and I eat a lot of peanut butter!

My family and I have used this peanut butter for 1 1/2 years, and it tastes better than any healthfood store peanut butter. I think it's because a lot of the natural oil is left in it, which doesn't make it dry. (Just make sure that you stir it up very well before refrigerating. Sometimes it takes about 5 minutes, but it's worth it.) Plus, with the instructions to refrigerate it, that helps it stay fresh, and not go rancid in a few weeks. We don't like to have a lot of unnecessary ingredients in our food, especially sugar/sweeteners, since our son has ADHD. This peanut better is awesome on freshly baked hot bread!

I find I really like this PB, though I have to admit that after all these years I find the thought of refrigerating PB an unnatural act. Great review. Rudi

When I was pregnant and had gestational diabetes, my doctor recommended this also for the great taste and help with eating healthy.

I love all natural peanut butter. It takes a while to get used to it because there's no sugar and junk in it but then it tastes yummy. I eat this and natural preserves on light wheat. It all is good for you and it tastes YUM. Good job paying more attention to your blood sugar!!
