Go big or go home

Comments about Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara:

I got this mascara is a huge sample set from Sephora. My heavens I just love that store!!!!!!! I love mascara and trying different kinds. There are some that I haven't liked, but I have to tell you that I do give a thumbs up to most mascaras.

The brush on this is HUGE. Some people do not like this because it is a little hard to manage and if you use it on the bottom lashes you are likely to get a million smudges. I recommed JUST using this product on the top lashes. Again, some may be annoyed by having to use two different mascaras.

This is super black, which is good for me because my lashes are really light. Some people may not like the dark look.

It adds length and volume, especially the volume. I think it is because of the brush. The brush is almost like a big fact ball. I have never seen a brush like this before.

I think this mascara is unique because of the brush and I really like this product.

Lash DNA is okay for lengthening & separating, but that's it

By

from Jacksonville, IL

Comments about Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara:

I got a deluxe sample of this mascara in Sephora's last year's Lash Stash and, I have to say, I'm not impressed. I did like the inky black color, but thought the consistency of the mascara was a little too thin and messed up my eye makeup if I blinked before it completely dried. It did a good job of separating my lashes, and was pretty good at lengthening, but gave zero volume or curl.

I was very dismayed to see small black smudges underneath my eyes only two hours after applying it! It's definitely not in the "long wearing" category.

According to the product information on Sephora.com, "Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara contains a proprietary complex of proteins and amino acids that bind to lashes--creating mega-length and curl while conditioning and rebuilding former lash damage. The double-helix brush lengthens and separates every lash, no matter how small, for the ultimate fanned-out effect."

I did not get mega-length or curl, and don't have any lash damage so I can't really comment on that aspect. I suspect that the conditioning formula is why it smudged so quickly.

Just a quick note about the "double-helix" brush: unless you're a fairly experienced makeup artist and have used a lot of different types of brushes, don't even bother trying this one. It's not for the faint of heart. It really is a trick to get it to cover every lash and took several brush strokes for me to get the definition I wanted.

Not so good

Comments about Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara:

I am a huge makeup junkie and love Smashbox-but I was super disappointed with this mascara!  I found the brush was way too large, making it hard to reach the corner and bottom lashes and it did not stay put very well.  In the beginning, it seemed to flake off slightly.  As the day wore on, it seemed to melt!  It left me looking slightly racoonish!  I tried this mascara on more than 1 occasion just to see if it was maybe a hot day, teary eyes, or other eye makeup causing the smudging, but it was not.  As much as this mascara smudged, it was not easy to remove!  The black rings under my eyes would barley move without a heavy duty make up remover.  My normal mascara is easily removed with my usual cleanser, but this stuff wouldn't budge!  Not only was it difficult to remove from my skin, there seemed to be a layer stuck on my lashes.  Even after washing and not wearing mascara the following day, it still seemed to flake off.  Sadly, as much as I love Smashbox and almost every one of their products, I don't have anything positive to say about this mascara.

Tricky but Good!

Comments about Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara:

I love this mascara, I just wish the brush was a tiny bit smaller!  My eyelashes look amazing when I have the time to be super careful not to get mascara all over the place because of the oversized brush, I really look like I have fake eyelashes, but if you are looking for an everyday mascara to apply when your getting ready in the morning, and in a rush, keep looking.  The brush can get very unwieldy and you will end up with Mascara all over your face!  The mascara does run very easily, if my eyes water, I will end up with smudged mascara, and that is definitely not a good thing, and I don't think the make this mascara in a waterproof formula.  However, all the negatives aside, if you follow the little diagram/directions for application on the packaging, you really can end up with spectacular looking eyelashes without going through the hassle of gluing on fake eyelashes and looking totally overdone!

Lash DNA is too oily

Comments about Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara:

I recieved a sample of this product in one of my Smashbox.com orders and was excited to try it out. I am a mascara junkie and love to try out all different brands and styles. I loved the size of the brush, and the application was very easy. One coat was all you needed to get really nice length and volume for your lashes. It wore well during the day, and wasn't 'flakey' like other mascaras that I have tried in the past.

However, what I didnt like about it was the fact it was so oily/greasy. It was very difficult to remove, even when using waterproof mascara remover. I had to rub really hard, and for an extended period of time to remove most of it (I could never get all of it off. The rest ended up smudging off as I slept, and I had to use makeup remover again in the morning.) Forget about removing it in the shower with just water, you end up with racoon eyes. All-in-all, even though I liked the look this mascara gave me, it is not one that I would purchase.

Like wearing false eyelashes without the mess.

Comments about Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara:

I normally do not wear mascara, because I already have dark eyelashes. However, Smashbox Lash DNA mascara is the product I grab when I want to add a little something extra to my makeup routine.

My general dislike for mascara was because other brands left my eyelashes clumpy. Also, I had problems finding a mascara that would stick and stay where it belonged instead of running down my face.

I first received Smashbox mascara as a sample when I ordered something from Sephora. I was hooked.

This mascara really adds a lot of volume and does a great job of enhancing the eye area. It goes on easily, smoothly and clean, and results in full, beautiful lashes. Also, it stays on all day or night. I've never had any issues with clumping or with it running.

The brush is nice and thick, which helps with the easy application. I only need one coat to get the look I want. When I apply it, the mascara makes my lashes look at least twice as thick as they did pre-mascara.

Worst Mascara I have ever tried

I am a busy mother and like to find products that I can trust and count on every day.  I received a sample of this mascara from Smashbox when placing an online order with them for some other products I was purchasing.

When opening this tube for the first time I remember thinking that the brush was very large for a mascara wand.  The brush is spiraled and because of the shape - difficult to apply on eyelashes.  I have tried this mascara on more than one occassion hoping that I would "learn" how to get it right, but because of the HUGE brush - I tend to get just as much on my eyelid as I do on my lashes.  My lashes seem clumpier and less evenly covered everytime I use this mascara - not to mention the clean-up I have to do on my eyelids/eyeshadow.  I would not ever purchase this mascara myself or recommend it to a family member or friend.  Stick to other smashbox products --stear clear of this mascara.

Sexy lashes in one wand stroke

Comments about Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara:

I received many samples of these with my Smashbox purchases.  At first I wasn't very impressed, but after messing with the wand and figuring out how to apply it for the best results, I'm in love.  Use a lash curler before application to get your best results
