Ellen Page made the world notice her last winter starring as the pregnant teenager in Juno. She carried the film with her dry humor and sharp wit. Now, a few months later, she costars in Smart People, and has several others to match wits with. Although the two characters in these two films are very different,... read full review »

I saw a poster for the movie Smart People somewhere and saw it had a good cast: Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker and Ellen Page, among others. Too bad the characters have far more angst than personality.

There's not much story in Smart People. Cranky college professor Lawrence Wetherhold (Dennis Quaid)...

Well the movie had a slowness to it that was expected, but was overall a type of life lesson movie. Dennis Quaid did an excellent job with his role as an oldish professor who didn't give a damn about his students or his children really. At many times he reminded me of Jack Nicholson, so I guess he really did pull it off :) Thomas Hayden Church was great as what I think was a "typical" role for him. He's a bit immature and obnoxious, but as the movie rolls forward he is a wonderful support beam to his family. Ellen Page...what can I say...I haven't seen Juno yet, but you can bet it's next on my...

Smart People had the potential to be a great, quirky movie. The solid cast was there: Ellen Page, Sarah Jessica Parker, Dennis Quaid and Thomas Haden Church. Something about the delivery was just lacking and I can't quite put my finger on it. The character build was relatively strong in my opinion. Maybe it was the slow, boring-ish script? The setting was very cold and gray which was fitting. Quaid's character, the lead, is cold and gray too so it made sense. Unfortuntely, I just felt a little depressed for the characters and generally uninterested in staying awake to make it to the end. I love... read full review »

I should have listened to my gut feeling about this movie when I decided to choose it. I was so bored that I fell asleep within 30 minutes of the movie. I was very pushed away by the characters attitudes. Even Sarah Jessica Parker made me feel uncomfortable and almost depressed. I tried my absolute hardest to stay awake and finally realized I didn't care if I did or not. My husband even ended up turning it off and we went to bed. I know I can't talk for the entire movie, but from what I saw, I was turned off by it. Don't let this review stop you from watching considering I didn't watch the entire...
