Slumdog Millionaire Reviews

We rented this movie from Blockbuster almost a week ago.  It sat on our coffee table for days before it even dawned on me to give it a chance.  I know, it is an acclaimed movie and all, but I must admit, I detest Indian movies.

Now before you go throwing the bigot tag around, hear me out.

Bottom-Line: Despite the depressing setting Slumdog Millionaire is strangely uplifting and hopeful and in the end is a movie the whole family can and most likely will enjoy.

I would never have taped Slumdog Millionaire off of HBO if it wasn't for so many people saying how great it was.  It takes a few minutes to get into it, but once you do it is actually very interesting.  Perhaps it's just so new and different that I'm drawn in with the details of this culture.

The movie begins with a man getting tortured.  Apparently he was 1 quesiton away from winning a million dollars in the Indian version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire".  The reason he is being tortured is because they are trying to find out how he cheated.  They assume he cheated because how else...

When "Who wants to be a Millionaire" first aired, I was entranced. More exciting than the "Price is Right," easier than "Jeopardy!" with the life lines, but still tricky enough to be worth watching each time it aired (at its height of popularity it was on at least 3 if not more nights in primetime). 

I am also a big fan of Bollywood movies. I love the huge dance scenes, and at some point when I move back to civilization (read the East Coast) I plan to take some Indian dance classes (if such a thing will still be offered by the time I leave the hinterland).

Slumdog Millionaire is amazing in every way you look at it.

This film, from acclaimed director Danny Boyle, follows the story of a man's journey to recover his lost true love, and find his purpose in life. Slumdog Millionaire is not to be missed!!!  This movie truely deserved best picture of the year and is one of the best ever.  I have seen every single best picture (all 81 of them) and I rank this one as the 8th best ever.  The movie uses the flashback method to tell the story of a "slumdog" who is a contestent on the Indian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire."  It follows the life of Patel from about age 8 to the present show.  While he has the opportunity to win millions on the show, he doesn't care about the money and only goes on the show so he can find the love of his life, played...

Slumdog Millionaire has it all as a movie - intelligence, suspense, romance, good guy/bad guy, passion.  A must see. Ingenius concept.  Not your normal, everyday movie, but I think everyone could enjoy it (except for the really young, of course).  Even my 12 year old daughter, who is extremely selective about what she will watch, was totally fascinated by this movie.  Probably because of the "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" aspect, but nontheless.  It's certainly understandable why this movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture.  And did you know that the production company had such little...

WOW!!! Is the first thing that comes to mind.  This movie deserved all of the awards it won and some.  It really opened my eyes to the world we live in and made me appreciate what I have.  Although it is a dramatization, I believe there is a lot of reality in this movie.  Almost too much in some parts.  Slum Dog Millionaire is very violent and disturbing in some parts, but it is worth sitting through those parts and watching between my fingers to experience this movie.  I was not prepared for the emotions I would feel while watching it.  I fell in love with the characters.  I was told that...

This was definately a movie for everybody. i don't recommend kids watch it though...there might be a bit of violence. but overall an amazing movie. the excitement never stops. its an all-in-one movie, comedy, action, drama, suspense, love....thats why i recommend it to everybody. it shows you all the different sides of india too, the rich and the poor, the ghettos,  mafia,  stealing, orfans. The movie really covers it all, and it's not a musical for those who hate musicals and think it;s a musical,....it has one song, at the end of the movie, which i suggest everybody to download, its called...

This movie portrayed other cultures and the realities of other countries.  I loved the transition of this film and how they showed how the main character came to know all the answers; the editing was awsome. The whole storyline of Slumdog Millionaire is open, truthful, informative, sad, and even funny at times.  It's an amazing portrayal of life in the slums and the harsh realities that goes with it.

I didn't want to see this movie because I thought it would be gloomy and sad, but it was really a great movie!  I have watched it a few times, each time I missed something.  To learn about another culture and see how other people live is eye awakening.  These three kids had a rough life and made it through some pretty crazy situations, but they are surviors.  5 thumbs up!

When I first thought about seeing Slumdog Millionare, I didn't expect it to be all that great. The commericals on it weren't that appealing but it got great reviews. And now after seeing the film for myself, I think of this film so much differently. To describe this film in one word: AMAZING. Nothing of what I expected. Full of adventure and intensity.
