Years ago, I was a huge fan of Slim-Fast dietary supplement powder which could be added to low-fat milk for use as a meal replacement a couple times a day as part of a weight reduction plan. I enjoyed it very much and am not sure now why I stopped. At any rate, Slim-Fast Optima Snack Bars are winning me over again. They come in several flavors -- the one I picked this time was Chocolate Mint Crisp. In my opinion, these are delicious -- great flavor, moist but chewy and I did not detect an after-taste.

STATS:

One bar constitutes a single serving which contains 120 calories with 40 calories from fat. There are three grams total fat, two grams saturated fat, zero trans fat, five mg. cholesterol, 140 mg. sodium, 19 grams total carbs, less than a gram dietary fiber, five grams sugars, six grams sugar alcohol, and two grams protein. Wait until you see this: 25% Calcium, 15% each Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Thiamin, Niacin, Folate, Vitamin C, Iron, Vitamin E, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin B12, 10% each Biotin, Phosphorus and Pantothenic Acid.

TASTE TIP:

Like all chocolate-based treats or snacks, Slim-Fast Optima Snack Bars are best eaten at room temperature and perfect with a cup of Folger's Instant Coffee, Gevalia, Starbucks, Kaffree Roma or some other favorite hot beverage.

Incidentally, did I tell you how much I enjoyed the dear scrapbooks? I'm glad to see we are both reviewing certain things -- usually the things you write about are previously unknown to me. I've learned a lot from your reviews. Catch ya later!

After I wrote my Snack Bar review, I looked to see what else had been said about them. Well, we're in it together, dearie. Must be genetic.

No, I've never tried the Snickers energy bars. I'm sort of fussy about energy bars, and I was really surprised that I liked the Slim-Fast things as much as I did. They were really very good and each one is individually wrapped. I think I still have some around here that I haven't got to and they are still good.

Have you ever tried the Snickers energy bars? I have a friend whose son swears by those things. I see them all the time and am tempted to try them but then I think, nah. I'm not much of a snacker and usually when I buy anything with more than one item in the box I put it in the cabinet under the kitchen island, forget about it, and have to dispose of it months down the road ;+( ~Gigi

Thanks, Irene, that sounds like a good tip and thank you for reading my review! Have a nice day!

You should really look into one of slim fast's lone competitor's slim easy pro.
They come with free atkin's bars and 15 free shakes. They're also cheaper than slim fast, i used to use slim fast but have since moved on to slim easy pro. I would much rather have their slim shake than slim fast's.

I eat this all the time. They are yummy!

Very interesting, Anna. So they are sweetened with sugar alcohol instead of a sweetener like Splenda or Nutrasweet right? I tried a treat with sugar alcohol once and it tasted pretty good. Looks like you picked a really good flavor. I usually grab an apple or energy bar. Maybe I'll try this - you know I love chocolate. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, they were very satisfying. I ate one about 5 p.m., the a small piece of cheese before I walked over to the 7/11 about 9 p.m. Now it's past 11 p.m. and I'm just beginning to think about SUPPER! Since I have retired, my eating cycle has fallen way behind. I was up early today but didn't have "breakfast" until after Noon. But anyway, yes, I thought the Optima bar was very satisfying! Thanks for reading my review!

Hi Anna. I have never tried these before, but they sound beneficial. Did they help control hunger like the box says?
