SLH.com stands for Small Luxury Hotels and as the name suggests, the site deals exclusively with the small boutique hotels. There are deals for boutique hotels around the world. Some cities have several options, some only one. Using the site is very easy. Type up the name of any city, no date required. You will instantly be able to see how many hotels and which ones are available through the site. Clicking on the name of the hotel, then, gives you room choices with prices. Each room option is very detailed, completed with amenities, bed size, views, surcharges, making it pretty easy to book. The part that is hard is deciding whether that hotel is indeed good enough for that price - since it's a boutique hotel there's no national standard as say one would expect from Mandarin Oriental or Ritz-Carlton or Intercontinental. And in some cities, where there is only one choice, there really is nothing to compare to. A lack of choice in boutique hotels in large cities - only 1 in San Francisco, 1 in Berlin, for example - is the biggest shortcoming of this website.

A colleague of mine told me about ww.slh.com (small luxury hotels) awhile ago and it's been a useful resource ever since.  Some of the elements I love about the slh.com site: - Really easy to navigate:  One can search by country/region, hotel name or hotel type - one can also search by new hotels, top slh ranked and luxury escapes - Align interests with hotel:   Searching by hotel type is really cool - you can chose from many different 'types,' ranging from Beach Resort to Game Lodge to Eco Reserve to Private Island (and so forth) - Regional Information provided:  Aside from just being able to locate a hotel on slh.com, one can obtain information about regions - Complete listing:  Unlike most sites where you need to toggle between various resources, slh.com gives you everything you need in one central location - you can even book your room on the site - Some reasonable prices, actually:  While some of the hotel choices are relatively expensive, I've found several choices (Northeast US location) that seemed to be very reasonably priced (however, slh.com isn't about getting the best deal, it's a resource for finding 'off-the-beaten' path lodging choices, that are smaller and more 5-starish) - Membership has its benefits:  I have not joined the slh.com club yet, however joining the club helps you further customize your hotel stay and provides you with other benefits (discounts, etc.) Slh.com is a great resource for anyone that makes more discerning lodging choices.
