Sleep Number Bed - Select Comfort Review Summary

Our reviewers like many features of the Sleep Number Bed: Select Comfort. They like that they can make it as soft or as firm as they want and that there are dual controls so their partner can crank up the firmness while they sleep on a softer mattress or vice a versa. The bed comes with a good warranty and most reviewers find it very comfortable. However, price is a big consideration. This bed doesn't come cheap. There are several options for the bed so you can get one at a fairly reasonable price or get it with the works and pay the price. However, our reviewers have to admit that sleeping on the Sleep Number Bed: Select Comfort is more comfortable than any regular bed regardless of price. It's a matter of your budget and preferences. Recently, I heard a news report regarding Select Comfort beds having mold issues.  We have had a king size pillowtop 5000 for 6 years and been quite satisfied.  After hearing this report I immediately unzipped my mattress cover and discovered there was mold on the foam cushion as well as the air chambers. ... review »

READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY A SLEEP NUMBER BED!!    My husband and I have owned one since 2004. The last few months I have become ill with constant sinus problems and severe allergy symptoms. So severe that it has affected my ability to work at times and I have had to miss work as a result. My husband...

I bought my bed in 2002. The first two years everything was fine with the bed, then I noticed the trenching of the mattress. I tried to re-inflate, adjust the chambers and nothing changed. I now have major back problems from this bed. There is no customer service with this company. I would not recommend this bed to my enemy.

we slept on a regular mattress and woke up stiff and sore every day.  so, we thought we would go out and spend $900 on a sealy pillowtop mattress set.  it said 10 year warranty so we thought we couldn't go wrong!  two years everything was great.  then we were waking up sore and stiff again.  flipping the mattress didn't help and eventually something broke inside (supposedly it doesn't have springs which is supposed to be the big difference) and the entire middle of the mattress caved like a sink hole.  we tried the ten year warranty but that didn't work out either.

that is a whole other...

A co-worker bought one and absolutely loved his - so I decided to check this bed out.  My husband and I went to the mall - tested out several different options - and landed on the Queen size - top model (don't remember the number).  We anxiously awaited our bed - which showed up in only a few days.  Putting it together was fairly easy.  We followed all the directions (sticking to one sleep number for several days before trying another...)  My husband says he sleeps really good on the bed - other than it does sleep very hot (especially now that it's summer).  I absolutely HATE the bed.  I... review »

We have had this bed for a couple of years. It is nothing but trouble and pain. The seprate chambers allow you to sleep at different firm or soft levels,ok and keep you on oppsite sides of the bed! If one of us trys to sleep next to the other one then we have to lay in the ditch in between! The foam cover that went over the air chambers ripped after the first year. We diddnt even try to get it replaced because the general concept of the bed is each side can be pumped up or down,so imagine folding a piece of paper in half over and over,it will rip just like that foam cover! We both wake up with... review »

My husband and I enjoy our bed so much we are going to get them for our Children.  We bought ours because friends of ours bought theirs about 13 years ago and they told us its like sleeping on a new mattress every night.  I was doubtful because I knew how our old mattress felt.  The one I had before the last one I slept on for about 25 years. Then we decided to get a whole new bedroom suit complete with new mattress. It felt good for about 2 years. Then came the turning it over and upside down and putting a piece of plywood under it to maybe make it a bit firmer... You know that didnt work. ...

Select Comfort Sleep Number Bed--7000 series.

One thing you must know BEFORE you purchase a Sleep Number Bed (SNB) is there is NO REPAIR SERVICE if something goes wrong with your bed.  If something breaks they will send you the part(s) but you have to make the repair yourself.  I own a King size SNB.  Even before you get any new parts YOU have to diagnose the problem by crawling under your bed and troubleshooting.  If you are disabled like I am and no one else in the household to do this for you that is difficult.  I called the home office in Minniapolis (Bill McGlaughlin is the CEO) and...

My husband and I had thought a researched the sleep number bed for sometime and finally decided to purchase one.  The setup was a little extensive, but not too difficult.  We had the matress for barely a year and got rid of it.  We both laid in the bed and set our numbers, but when one of us got out of bed the other would roll to the middle of the bed.  Also, because this is just like an air matress you can fell every move the other person makes, my husband is not a light sleeper and he would be woken when I moved.  I started sleeping on the matress during a pregnancy and had to finish the...

Hey, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY on a sleep number bed.  I had a bad back about four years ago.  After seeing my primary care physician, a chiropractor, a holistic health practitioner, an acupuncturist and a chinese healer, I finally broke down and shelled out two grand for a sleep number bed by select  comfort.  I got rid of a perfectly good mattress and boxspring with high hopes for waking up pain-free.   What a mistake!  Hey, the bed is comfortable but it didn't do a thing for my back, as was advertised back then.  (I see they've changed their advertisement, they no longer make such claims... review »

We've gone through waterbeds, pillow tops, and such.  My wife and I decided that she and I had different needs for a mattres. She needed firm and I loved soft. So we got the sleep by number.  She loves it I hate it.  I've tried different settings and I'm either feeling I'm in a hammock or on a bouncy balloon. I'm also disappointed to see that our mattresses have only one air chamber in them.  If it had multiple chambers maybe the comfort level would be better and my butt wouldn't put my feet higher than my head.  I've taken my bladder out and put in memory foam. Now I've realized that the... review »

Was very dissapointed with King bed.  We could not take the barrier between the two chambers and returned.  The return process was horrible.  They kept convincing us to try the bed longer, when we finally arranced for a pick up, they cancelled on us.  When they came the second time, they broke our bed frame.  Select Comfort said that the broken bed frame is not their problem.  Would not reccommed to anyone that likes to move around in their bed....if you like to cuddle, forget it!

I purchased my Sleep Number Bed about 2 1/2 years ago.  The first year the remote control stopped working which was replaced under warranty.  After 2 years one side would loose about 1/2 of its air every 2 - 3 days.  I called the company for help, but had to self diagnose it.  They do not have someone to check it for you.  After 3 - 4 calls they said I needed a new pump.  My cost (20%) would be $158.  I was told to get it now because each year the cost goes up.  I decided to forgo getting the pump because I am not sure whether the pump is bad.  My wife's side does not loose air.  It... review »

My husband and I tried many beds in stores before we settled on the Select Comfort.  Many family members have one and raved about theirs. We however can not "rave" about it.  We each have had difficulty setting it to the number where we wake up in the morning and say "Yep, this was definitely worth the money".  Actually we ended up buying a 4 inch Tempurpedic like (Serta brand though) mattress to put on top and have found that is how we are both the most comfortable.  Maybe we would have been happier with the highest end model.
