I bought a Select Comfort queen mattress in late 2005. Although the air mattress design was good for the back, the quality of this product is lacking. It is basically an air bag (2 for the queen) inside a mattress ticking with some foam to give it some shape. The fabric outer layer seemed oversized, never fit the foundation properly. We could never use it at a setting below 60 without being in a pit. After 5 years, the fabric has started to shred and the whole thing provides no support. Now we have it at 100 and are sleeping in 2 large indentations. We have 2 layers of foam on top because the surface is so hard with this setting. It was a pillowtop model. That fiber is completely compressed and it didn't take anywhere near 5 years for that to happen. I have had standard mattresses, that were much cheaper and lasted for many, many years. The most comfortable mattresses I ever slept on were latex, but those were bought back in the late 50's and I don't know which ones would be comparable today. I will be researching that for my next purchase, unfortunately that should have happened by now in spite of the assurances of the Select Comfort people that their mattress would outlast traditional mattresses.
