My husband and I were searching for a bed that could accomodate our sleeping needs. We've tried many inner spring mattresses and I have always felt like I was sleeping on a slant because I am around 120 lbs. while he is around 260 lbs. and as soon as he got on the bed, his side sank while mine stayed higher but at a slant towards him. We have always purchased firmer mattresses because of this, although we truly prefer softer ones. We thought the sleep number bed would solve all of our problems. WRONG! Although there are two seperate air chambers (with a foam divider bar in the middle) they are zipped into a padded mattress cover, thus unifying them. My husband preferred less air in his chamber than I did and so the end result was me rolling off my "air bubble" into him. We tried combating this problem by filling both sides the same, but there was still a slant. The other major problem with this bed is that unless you have the air chamber at its fullest you have a sunken in feeling - no support in the middle of your body - and to remedy that feeling you must have the air chamber full, in which case it feels like you're sleeping on a brick bed! Nothing comfy about it. My back never hurt before sleeping on this bed. We much prefer inner spring mattresses.
