Hey, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY on a sleep number bed. I had a bad back about four years ago. After seeing my primary care physician, a chiropractor, a holistic health practitioner, an acupuncturist and a chinese healer, I finally broke down and shelled out two grand for a sleep number bed by select comfort. I got rid of a perfectly good mattress and boxspring with high hopes for waking up pain-free. What a mistake! Hey, the bed is comfortable but it didn't do a thing for my back, as was advertised back then. (I see they've changed their advertisement, they no longer make such claims these days.) After fourteen months, one side of my bed went totally flat. Customer service was very nice. They told me maybe one of the inflatable bladders inside the bed burst. Great. How on earth did the bag burst? I'm a divorced grandmother, I live alone and I haven't had wild sex in decades. They said try swapping the tubes from the compressor that pumps up the two bags inside the bed and pump up the flat side. That way I could rule out a burst bladder. If that didn't work, the compressor was probably malfunctioning. They were very nice in informing me that since my limited warranty was over one year old, I would need to shell out a large amount of money for either a replacement bladder or compressor (I can't remember the amount anymore, something like $150 for the compressor). The company was so kind in sending me a FREE cap for the flat bladder. Have both sides pumped up and cap one and leave the compressor line on the other. They even fed-exed it! So I got my little flexible plastic cap the size of a thimble two or three days later. Well, that was extremely hard even for TWO people to do, since we both had to sit on the mattress at the head of the bed, unzip the mattess below the headboard and reach way down inside and unhook the fitting at the end of the bag WITH ONE HAND, trying not to LOSE the end of the bladder, swap lines with your helper next to you, and reassemble it all. Unfortunatley, MY fitting (plastic), broke. On a weekend. No customer service on weekends. I tried sleeping that weekend on the side of a hill. I finally used the couch. Monday I called them again. Three days later I got my FREE plastic replacememt fitting. More exhausting calisthenics, great exercise for someone suffering from back problems and having to sleep on the couch for a week. My helper and I finally got the two lines swapped, bladders pumped up, one capped, one with the line attached. I ended up in excruciating pain for a day. Seems the compressor they supplied has two systems, one for each side of the bed. One side of the compressor went bad. So that's where it stands, if the OTHER side of the compressor goes, I'm out of luck. BUT, it was stated in my paperwork, the warranty is good for a year, after that everything's "pro-rated". I'll NEVER shell out big bucks for an expensive, heavily-advertised item thinking it will last a long time. I'm no longer so naive to believe everything manufacturers say. I have great respect and gratitude for folks like you who dig into the truth about consumer products for the purpose of saving us time, trouble, headaches and MONEY. THANK YOU, keep up the good work. PS... As for my back, I saw a new chiropractor who showed me some simple exercises to do to stretch the muscles that go down my legs. I'm a trucker and I sit for long periods and my muscles get "frozen". One visit to him! Bless his heart! Three years since that one visit, not a problem since!
