Why did I need a new bed?
Myhusband and I purchased the 5000 series Sleep Number bed in November 2007 from the retail store at our local mall. Our past experiences with "traditional" mattresses had been less than stellar, and I think we spent way too much money on them. We were planning to have another baby, and I knew I would NOT be able to go through another pregnancy on our saggy mattress. We were desperate for more comfort, so on the recommendation of a friend, we headed to the Sleep Number store...on the day after Thanksgiving...with two toddlers in tow. (Didn't I say we were desperate?!?)
At the store
After the clerk helped us find our "numbers" (mine was 45, husband's was 70), we were able to take care of the financing and ordering process quite quickly. We went ahead and paid the $150 extra to have the bed assembled at delivery. This also included them hauling away our old crappy mattress. Good riddance!!
The delivery process
Within a week I was contacted by a Sleep Number representative to set up a delivery date and time. This was the only part of the process that did not flow well for me. Apparently in my rather rural area of Iowa, they only "go through" my vicinity on Thursdays and Fridays. My regular day off from work is Wednesdays, so I had to take an additional day off to arrange to be there for the delivery. Two weeks after we'd ordered our new bed, it was delivered and set up! The delivery guys were pros- super fast assembly and I knew the $150 was TOTALLY worth it!
In real life
We have loved our bed from the very beginning. It took 2-3 nights to get used to it, as the sales people said it would, but OH MY GOODNESS, the lack of aches and pains in our backs and hips was phenomenal!! I am now 6 months pregnant, and as the baby pounds have crept on I have needed to up my "number" to keep the support firm enough. It has worked wonderfully. I have gone from a 45 to a 70. Hopefully I won't need to go past 100 before the baby comes!!
