The Skippyjon Jones book series is one of the best things I've seen in a while in the world of children's books. It is simple enough that the children laugh, and subtly humorous enough to make the adults laugh, too. The basic storyline is that Skippyjon Jones is a Siamese kitten who thinks that he is a chihuahua. He has a vivid imagination that takes him to other lands and adventures that give him a chance to show who he really wants to be. Skippyjon Jones is always a favorite with my class. This fun loving Siamese cat imagines wild adventures where he is a sword fighting Chihuahua named Skippito. The kids love it because funny things happen, there are little songs that involve clapping, it rhymes and there are lots of funny Spanish (and pretend Spanish) words included. My Spanish speaking students love to explain the real Spanish words to the rest of the class. They also find it humorous to hear the words that aren't really Spanish. Skippyjon Jones is one fantastic, imaginative, creative, captivating children's story. One of my granddaughters is so in love with this book series that she cannot wait to hear the stories. As I work with children for a living, I love finding stories that just entertain and spark imaginations. These books are full of imagination and fun, fun fun. If you have a child in your life from three to ten, these books are a great way to share time because you, too, will enjoy it. And if you have older children, don't be surprised if you find them discreetly listening…
